(Sohnen are quiet and reclusive individuals)

The Sohnen are one of the galaxies oldest surviving races. Technologically, they are hyper-advanced and they guard their technology closely. The Sohnen don't care for galactic laws and conflicts, they keep to themselves and rarely deal with the lesser races. Sohnen are remarkably long lived, some can live witness both the rise and the fall of entire solar empires. Sohnen harness dark matter to great effect and have unlocked all of the energy's secrets.

(Sohnen commonly incorporate cybernetics into their own bodies. Some are more synthetic than organic.)

Other species commonly refer to Sohnen as 'Palers' for their white skin and glowing blue eyes. The Sohnen originally came from a rogue ice planet, a world that was thrown from its star system due to gravitational fluctuations. Another planet in the system had been utterly destroyed by a far older, now long dead, alien race, which threw the entire system into complete gravitational chaos. The planet, farthest from the local star anyways, was tossed into deep space and deprived of sunlight. Before the cataclysm, the Sohnen had constructed great domes on their planet to sustain them from the already deadly cold. Secured in their domes but left with no sunlight, their skin became stark white and they developed the ability to see in total darkness. Over time, the Sohnen knew that their world would constantly drift through dark space until they'd be lost forever. A mass exodus began and the Sohnen abandoned their homeworld, reaching across the galaxy to find new worlds.

(Monolithic Sohnen megastructures can be found in many places in the galax. Some are as old as the millenia following the great exodus while others are relatively quite new. Some Sohnen 'megaliths' are still completely inhabited, with wildlife aboard the gigantic space stations specifically adapted to their conditions. Some megaliths are large enough to even completely surround stars.)

The Sohnen had split up after the exodus but never fell out of communication with the other colonies. Eventually, they had reached every corner of the galaxy and some had even reached the distant satellite galaxies. They were never interested in becoming some great galactic superpower, but their technology was still far more advanced any race currently travelling across the stars. They made it clear that they wanted no part in galactic affairs and that they would not trade their technology, lest it was used for other species' wars. Sohnen implement dark matter in nearly every walk of life. Their weapons fire beams of focused dark matter which tears through energy shielding, armor, and flesh alike with ease. Dark matter engines provides an incredible amount of thrust for their ships. Even their warp drives harness dark matter to create and travel instantly through wormholes. Individual Sohnen soldiers are equipped with miniaturized versions of these warp drives, allowing them to travel through small wormholes to their destinations. Because of this, Sohnen marines can board ships almost entirely undetected or move troops to reinforce their own ships in the event of a boarding action. The range to these personal 'fold-jumpers' is unknown, but one thing is clear: stir a community of Sohnen, and soldiers are never far away."

(Some Sohnen are more extroverted than the rest of their people. These Sohnen often take up the life of mercenaries. While some Sohnen mercenaries bring their own technology with them, it is commonly left behind in their great megaliths so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Sohnen mercenaries usually make do with weapons and equipment from other races.)

The Sohnen race is one of scientists and archivists. They are the keepers of galactic history, both their own and that of others, and are the first to have discovered many technologies. Sohnen pride their warriors but as a civilization, they don't actively seek war. Sohnen prefer to stand on the sidelines and watch as other empires run the galaxy. Sohnen have a seat among the galactic council, but their ambassadors rarely ever provide input on matters. However, when certain conflicts begin to threaten the sanctity of the galaxy as a whole, the Sohnen will often step in to quickly resolve the matter with a very intimidating show of force.

(Sohnen adorn their faces with kohl and paints. The patterns denote their social status and career. Sohnen never change careers and they are dedicated to whatever path they take. If a Sohnen is a scientist, he will be one for his thousands of years of life.)

There are still a few Sohnen alive who had left the homeworld during the great exodus. Some have had a hand in constructing the megaliths while others are responsible from some of the Sohnen's greatest technological breakthroughs. Today, these Sohnen are venerated and are retired to a life of comfort and luxury. Ancient Sohnen are usually accompanied by a full entourage of honor guard and have entire fleets at their command. Ancients are pools of vast wisdom and knowledge and their lives are valued above all else. Sohnen have been known to leave entire colonies to die upon hearing news of an ancient being in danger. Sohnen will go to war with the full might of their military to preserve the ancients.
