Hey Whoami, thanks for taking interest in this! I didn't think anyone else was going to show up, so I put this on the backburner, but if [@OtomostheCrazy] is still around and we get one more player this could move forward. Here's some notes on the Sohnen
First let me say I think the 'cool' factor and the mystique of the Sohnen are awesome. I love the ice-planet concept. Dark matter is certainly intriguing as well. I do have a few concerns that they are an uber-race, in that they have all the best technology ("Some megaliths are large enough to even completely surround stars.)") the best power ( full entourage of honor guard and have entire fleets at their command"") but somehow don't want to tangle with galactic affairs. Why? What keeps them from establishing an empire with their weapons that fire dark matter and their cybernetic enhanced bodies? What I really love (and has the potential for cool adventures) "Some Sohnen 'megaliths' are still completely inhabited, with wildlife aboard the gigantic space stations specifically adapted to their conditions" are the Sohnen megalith ruins. How do you feel about all of the above having taken place a million years ago? The Sohnen have died off (for the most part) hence their inability to influence galactic affairs ( I should mention their is no real 'galactic council' in this universe) or start a new Sohnen Empire. Was it a plague? A cybernetic virus implanted in their genes by an enemy? Other than that I think you've got some great concepts and Lore here to start with.
Thank you for liking the Sohnen! My intention was that yes the Sohnen are ridiculously powerful but since they keep to themselves, they are very uncommon. Their reason for not conquering the galaxy is simply because they know a costly war would allow too much of their own technology to fall into enemy hands. Sohnen don't have many planets under their banner, as most of them live aboard the gigantic megaliths. Many megaliths are well maintained, but they're so large that indeed parts of them have fallen into disrepair. All megaliths have at least one of these ruined sections where the flora and fauna aboard the stations have reclaimed. The tight corridors and large open regions in these defunct zones are overgrown and are home to some creatures unique to that biosphere. There are Sohnen megaliths that are entirely uninhabited, either by a catastrophic event or plague or even more specific events. These abandoned megaliths are huge wrecks in space that salvage crews, pirates, crime syndicates, and others like to turn to. Often times, the wildlife aboard these megaliths are still dominant and have evolved wildly without Sohnen supervision. Abandoned megaliths are home to some of the galaxies fiercest spacefaring predators as they have a tendency to sneak aboard ships docking to the megaliths. Sohnen are incredibly wise and, as I've stated, act more so as mediators for other empires at war since the galaxy understands their technological might and would prefer not to fight against them. Sohnen have lived long enough to witness what happens to grand scale empires, how they fracture and tear themselves apart. They've witnessed entire species turn to dust as a result of terrible galactic wars. I'm fine with Sohnen being millions of years old. They are, after all, one of the oldest surviving races in the galaxy because they chose not to go to war for petty reasons. Sohnen are primarily focused on the survival of their species, which is why they care little galactic affairs that have nothing to do with them. The Sohnen are a race I'd love to have a part in this galaxy, but my character would be human anyways. The Sohnen are a great background species whose benevolence lends a lot to plotlines and background events.
