An arrow whizzed past Maleficent's ear, as Thorin had also seen the white stag and had shot an arrow at it. It missed the stag completely, and the animal in question was soon gone in the darkness of the forest. "You shouldn't have done that!" Kili proclaimed as he worriedly watched Maleficent disappear from view. "It's bad luck!" "I don't believe in luck." Thorin snarled. "We make our own luck!" While Maleficent was gone and Bilbo was in the treetops, the dwarves had wandered off the path and gotten very lost indeed. Their clamouring and tripping over things had disturbed the webs, which had brought the giant spiders straight to the unsuspecting group of dwarves. Bilbo looked around as he broke the treetops and heaved in a huge breath of the fresh air. He smiled slightly as a cloud of blue-black butterflies flew up around him, disturbed as the hobbit appeared. He looked around and got his bearings, finally finding the river, lake and the Lonely Mountain in the distance. "I can see a lake, and a river! And the Lonely Mountain!" he called down to the others. "We're almost there!!" he said excitedly, but there was no response which made the hobbit frown. "Hello? Can you hear me? I know which way to go!"
