A Utopian plan is something that is physically possible - socialism, communism, anarchism, virtuous republicanism - these things are all possible if everyone adheres to their tenants perfectly. We might get there, but it'll take multiple generations at best. Kicking and screaming. That's the only way anything ever happens. In the case of a smartphone, you're talking about something that is sold on it's function, and requires absolutely no other commitment from the average person then their paying for their smart phone. The smartphone isn't synergistic - it's a product.
