Hello, I'm seeing if anyone is interested in a pre-written NRP based on sci-fi space warfare. Project Starlight was originally an attempt by me and several other people to create a miniature-tabletop warfare game similar to Battle Fleet Gothic (Warhammer 40k) or Firestorm Armada (I know, big dreams huh?). And I was wondering if it could make for an interesting NRP. This is my first time attempting NRP (also I'm new to the forum... haha, although I've done RP on other sites before) so please let me know if I'm doing anything to make myself look like a fool. The background and nations are already written and established so players will be able to just pick a nation and role play with it on the spot without writing much up. Of course, where the players take their nations from the starting point is completely up to them, there is no set timeline or lore to comply with. I have written down a BRIEF version of what we got so far, just so everyone can get a feel of the setting and if they want to join, which nation they wish to be. Obviously everything I have will have to be converted into a NRP style (stats, mechanics, rules, etc). I'll post the rest of the information if we have enough people interested. I will be honest with this... since we are running with pre-set of untested stats and nations, balance of this might be very whack at first. However, I'm hoping this is a prototype trial run to figure out mistakes and fix them for the next edition of the game. I'm really hoping that you guys enjoy this enough to work with me on balancing the game to the point where it can be enjoyed with fairness for everyone eventually. Without further delay... allow me to introduce to you, Starlight. Starlight The time is MMMXXXIII, also known as year 3033 AD. The human race has come far from its primitive origins and has made much progress, sailing the sea of stars as brave explorers and warriors. Discovering new worlds, meeting exotic aliens and making war upon those who disagree. However, they are not alone in this quest for dominance. Numerous opponents and challenges await, not just humanity but, any and all intelligent civilizations of the galaxy. Whether they will perish during the flames of war and conquest or rise to new glorious levels of prosperity and authority is completely up to you… commander. Currently there are 6 factions competing for control:
Confederacy of Mankind - Self-proclaimed heir of humanity and rightfully dominant species of the galaxy, Confederacy is a ruthless military nation based on planet Earth, birth place of mankind. While they have suffered much over the last few centuries due to civil wars and alien invasions, Confederacy is itching to re-expand and reclaim its lost colonies and drive out its enemies for good. While lacking in technological innovations of other, alien forces, Confederacy has geared up for war with a large, well-trained military. Brilliant commanders with years of experience along with soldiers on high morale and ready to do their part, Confederacy's greatest strengths are not the individual skill of their men or technological power, but its military's bond of brotherhood and willpower. Some in game traits: - Higher chance of raising superior commanders. - Additional resources from militarized worlds. - Starts off with large military. - Star ships tends to be very durable and tough, able to take a beating. Neo Terran Coalition - Tough, rugged and independent, Neo Terran Coalition (NTC) are the descendants of the colonial rebels who shed blood to be free of Confederacy's iron grip. They believe themselves to be the superior of the humankind and treat their mortal enemy, Confederacy, with much hatred and wrath. Originally NTC were just colonials sent from Earth in order to populate and spread Confederacy's influence upon the galaxy. However, decades of mistreatment of colonial rights such as heavy taxation and political vetoes have driven much of the colonial powers to unite under a single flag to resist the Confederacy. They utilize their latest technological marvels and lessons learned from their colonial days in order to conduct warfare, deploying powerful warships crewed by veteran pilots. Some in game traits: - Starts off with large territory and resources. - 2nd most mobile star fleets in game. - Fleet practices hyper-long range combat, meaning each battle NTC fleets will have a chance to take less damage. Central Singularity - Zealous nation of Artificial Intelligence who believe in Gods long gone from the Milky Way galaxy, the Central Singularity are under the mission to decipher their Gods' legacy and tend to the galaxy to prepare for their return. Their entire society revolves around a series of codes left behind by their creators whom they believe are Gods. As codes are cracked, new prophecies, predictions, instructions and omens are revealed to them and it is the Singularty's purpose to carry them out to the letter. Unlike most other civilizations of Milky Way, Singularity are a nation of programs, Artificial Intelligence whose true forms are nothing but a programming in a machine. They are masters of calculation and predictions, utilizing highly efficient warships to bring victory for their Gods. Some in game traits: - Modular - (will be explained more in detail if there is interest) allows all military units to be changed into different ones. - Prophecies will be revealed at a time interval and must be adhered to (although how to interprete the prophecy is at the player's choice). - Diplomatically neutral to all factions at the beginning. Dorzelian Collective - Once a great promising power, now only the echoes of their former glory, the Drozelian Collective are a nomadic race of humanoids with very advanced bio-science. Once a great power with a large empire, the Drozelians destroyed themselves by creating their ultimate project: the Corachnidites. Now on the run from their creations, they have incited the wrath of other nations of the galaxy by invading their territories in order to run from the Corachnidites. They are desperate to survive and have nothing to lose. Drozelians utilize their highly advanced bio-weaponry and create weapons created using the peak of their technological advancements. Some in game traits: - Fastest units in the game by conventional movements. - Most efficient resource gathering from conquered worlds. - Possesses planet-sized star ships, acting as mobile home worlds. Meaning capital planets are able to move unlike all other factions. Corachnidites - An abominable creation by the Drozelians at the height of their power, Corachnidites are mindless, ravenous force of destruction released upon the galaxy. They act more like an evolving virus rather than a civilization of sentient creatures. Adapting and evolving to be more powerful and deadly than ever before. They are able to create anything and everything they require using biological materials, anywhere from simple cannonfodder upon battlefields or gigantic space warships writhing with life. Some in game traits: - Starts off with the largest territory and resources. Also the largest military. - Must antagonize all other factions. - Uses an evolutionary system rather than tech level research system. - Fleets tend to be large in numbers, swarm style. Pilgrims of The Void - Mysterious, xenophobic and without doubt the most technologically advanced species currently in Milky Way galaxy, the Pilgrims (often called Void Walkers by other species) are from the Andromeda galaxy. Their original nation ripped apart and scattered by forces unknown, they were lead by The Exalted One to the Milky Way galaxy through a great travel called The Exodus. Even for the technologically advanced Pilgrims, The Exodus proved to be a great disaster for them, as they lost billions of lives and countless ships. The Exalted One, upon arriving in the Milky Way galaxy, swore to rebuild their former empire in their new home for the sake of their lost ones. While their forces are small, the Pilgrims are sure their unparalleled technology will grant them victory over the other, lesser races. Some in game traits: - Highest starting tech level - Most amount of "special movements" possible, such as teleportations - Small fleet of highly teched up elite star ships capable of matching other factions' larger fleets very easily.
This might be very unorthodox and unusual (I'm not sure if anyone else does this here) but... IF more than 6+ people show interest, I could implement a system in order to accompany everyone. For instance, in the current lore of the game, there are 3 branches of Drozelian "migrations" lead by 3 different leaders. On the other hand, if we have less than 6 people we could try cutting out a few factions or run them as NPCs (although I would not prefer that if I had the choice).
