I agree with [@Frettzo]. When I think 'Apex Predator made by God of Death', I think something that kills efficiently and quickly. Usually quietly. Not something that protects like the White Giants, kills only to assimilate like the living hair, or kills for the sake of killing and their hatred like the Ashlings. 

I think something that kills because only the strong survive. Something that weeds out the weak. Survival or struggle seems like it'd fall under death better.
