Well, I don't know how it would be so easy for him to kill. First, the robot is grounded (like any tank), so lightining would run through his armor and not damage any internal systems. And second, as long as Eos is besides it, Gil can as well try to suck all the power out of the sun, because she recharges any machines in her close vicinity constantly. Don't think that this will be an easy fight, otherwise this enemy wouldn't be classified as a Boss.

It has legs, gunship is just a generic name for any vessel fitted with lots of weaponry, specially if it's intended for artillery use, such as this one.
