A nul zone is a place that drains life force energy. While standing in one most low level powers are canceled, and most stronger ones are reduced. You should have noticed that the color of light is turned to its negatives, like in an undeveloped photograph, once you stepped inside. It's the only way to tell where a nul zone is, otherwise, it's practically invisible.
