[@Angel Eyes] Hmmm, something more support-like. He uses his violin to enrapture an audience within... A fifty foot radius? That means everyone pauses what they're doing and just listen to the music. They enter an entranced mode and are basically in an unconscious state until the song ends. I was thinking the idea of slowed perception of reality when listening to his music which means easy use of his bokken. Hmmm... I might combine those two.
This is definitely a lovely ability. A character called Emma Coolidge had this ability on Heroes, but it was a little more advanced. As you can see here, Emma had the ability to see sound as light. Similar to Dazzler from X-men. Using her Cello, she could not only entrance people while they were listening to her, but she could lure people to her by thinking about them as she was playing. This could be further amplified by something like a speaker, allowing her to lure a crowd of people to her. Additionally, she was able to use her ability offensively, by channeling the light produced from her cello and blasting it outward in an arc, like a concussive energy blast. Though, because a cello is a very large instrument, it wasn't something she could just use on a whim. But in your case, a violin, this would be much easier and could be used in conjunction with eachother. Placate and lure an enemy to you and then blast them with a blast of light. Emma's light was able to create a large crack in the wall of her bedroom, so its pretty powerful. She did it by striking her cello in a very sharp movement straight across. I would imagine your character's father often employing or rather forcing your character to use his ability to lure his enemies to a general vicinity or at least sedate them and then having them all murdered on the spot by his goons. Though, powers that induce mind control like effects are always very iffy. It's fine to abuse it on npc type characters, but on another roleplayer, you usually have to get permission first to be allowed to control them since controlling another player's character is generally seen as a big no no. Sooooo....idk. lol Just some food for thought though I guess.
