I actually wrote Jorwen based on a lot of my little understanding on how soldiers view war, especially as a man who has seen as much of war as he has. Nordic culture is almost anti-intellectual, as they pride themselves more on strength and bloody tales. Jorwen is a man who spent his life in war and knows the stories of glory in war are bold-faced lies. The reason soldiers miss war, it's been said, is not because they miss killing, it is because war forges bonds that they will never and can never find elsewhere and the effects of the massive doses of adrenaline that experiencing combat gives you. Jorwen, like many real life veterans, came back from the brotherhood and love that soldiers have for one another in war-time to a Skyrim and civilian life where a million uncertainties bombarded him. He had a wife to care for, a daughter to raise, and a tailor's shop to run that was doomed to fail. He had his shop taken from him and he only ever knew how to do one other thing. My father grew up in the 80s and 90s around some of the worst zones in which gang killings took place and was part of it all, being a gang member. He is many years removed from that life, but he still holds a certain buried aggression in him, a side of him that is truly scary. There's always pieces of my father in the characters I write. I feel I get to understand him better without having to bring up his memories of it all. These should be good starting resources about the mindset of veterans and the effects of war and killing- Sebastian Junger: Why Veterans Miss War On Killing - Episode 2 (Lonnie) HUMAN - Clip #14: The lasting effects of violence As cheesy as 80s action movies are, the first Rambo had this great scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMyca5XC_Ao Which is a little bit like Ulfric's speech he gives to Galmar the first time the player walks into the Palace of Kings. There's an age difference between Sevine, and Jorwen, he's clearly a veteran, and it was Sevine's first war; perhaps there can be some type of mentorship between the two. It sounds like we oughta do our own collab, for some Character Development between them. I think he would have a lot of help to give Sevine, maybe ask her some life changing questions, maybe even throw an appearance in with Solveig. And there's a lot of questions she could ask him too.
