Just a few things to note, none of the human characters could be considered children-children...unless your character is ages old, than perhaps.
And the humans falling through to the caves is not actually all that a common occurrence, your character probably wouldn't just know. I mean it would make sense if as a monster spider there are possibly spiders working for him and informing him, but he wouldn't just be in in this case.
