For there is no evil in sorcery, only in the hearts of men."
The forests were old... peaceful; giving off that strange sense that something deeper, and almost magical was hidden within. To think that over the course of years to pass it was all going to be torn down... leaving nothing behind but vast open spaces, ready to be built up during the might of the industrial era which seemed as though would only come too soon for someone who was able to understand time as well as he could. A saddened flicked seemed to grace his features for only a brief moment at the thought of such waste of beauty before eventually, he tore his gaze away from the grace of nature, instead turning his attention over to the might of a large castle sitting strong not too far from where he was stood. Camelot was the pride of Albion, and home to the one true King... Arthur Pendragon would be the one to defy all odds stacked up against him in his quest to unite the lands- to go against his father, and to allow those who were able to wield the power of magic to lead normal lives... to have that chance to walk the right path without the fear of being hunted down, and slaughtered for the crime of being born; though he knew better than most about what was going on... the path being walked by all involved was a long and treacherous one, and it would take much time for those who could tap into the magic of the world to once again be accepted within the walls of Camelot; whether grown, or born into it, their powers were something they should be proud of... and unlike during the rule of Uther Pendragon; they would have no need to fear consequence unless such gifts were used for evil, and proof provided to both the royal court and to the future King himself. Arthur was a good man... and he would make a kind, though just King. ~ Merlin, of Camelot.
Camelot - Information
The pride and joy of Albion, the mighty Kingdom of Camelot was founded by the legendary King Bruta; a land of both peace and prosperity- the forests surrounding the Kingdom both old... familiar; giving off that strange sense that something deeper, and almost magical was hidden within. However, as the Pendragon family came into the crown, and from the time known as the ‘Great Purge’ onward, magic was all but wiped from the land, and those surrounding it after the tragic and untimely death of the Queen, Ygraine Pendragon. Camelot - City Info The citadel, a most prominent feature of Camelot, is the upper quarter of the city itself, and is the portion of the city which is closest to the castle; this area is where artisans such as those who work close to the royal family within the castle walls (maids, cooks, ect.), and those with a trade which is held in close ties to the royals (blacksmith, leather worker, ect.) both live and make their home. Located quite close to the citadel is a tavern know to all by ‘The Rising Sun’; the tavern a lively place to meet people of many different social status, as many including both Prince Arthur and the Knights of Camelot tend to frequent the establishment. The lower quarter of Camelot is located closer towards the edge of the city, and is housed mainly by those who are of a lower class; the two halves of the city separated by a large wall with three gates (southern, eastern, western), the gates able to be closed off and sealed on order of the royal family whenever they deem that the lower quarter is needing to be cordoned off for whatever reason. Every year in honor of upholding tradition, the royal family of Camelot holds the ‘Tournament of Camelot’; a longstanding competition where competitors from all across the five Kingdoms, and some from around the world, travel to the city so that they may take part, and compete for the glory of becoming champion, along with the chance to escort the Kings Ward, Lady Morgana, to the champion’s feast and to win the prize of one thousand gold pieces. Camelot - Citadel Info: In the very middle of the city is the castle in which the royal family (Uther, Arthur, and Morgana) and those of nobility live, and where the court is held whenever it is called to order to discuss important matters of the Kingdom. The castle is seen to be large and constructed of white brick, with several tall and strong towers, as well as complex architecture, and is considered to be Camelot’s greatest asset in war as it is known to be virtually impregnable by all and any who dare to charge against it. Within the castle ground are the quarters of the court physician, and the citadel also houses a garrison of at least twelve-thousand men which to date, has never before fallen in a siege- the courtyard of the citadel is also where those persecuted of using magic are put to execution by order of the King. Camelot - Government Info: An absolute monarchy ruled by Uther Pendragon; Camelot is shown to be a very wealthy Kingdom as it offers the prize of a thousand gold coins for the participants in its tournaments, this along with many other reasoning adding temptation to the already large desire of many other Kings to attempt conquer of the Kingdom for both additional riches and power. Widely known for its laws on banning all forms of magic and enchantments on pain and penalty of death, usually either by burning, or beheading- such laws have been in place now for more than twenty years, having been enacted by the King during the Great Purge that followed the Prince’s birth, and the subsequent death of the Kings beloved wife, Queen Ygraine; these laws have made Camelot, and Prince Arthur specifically, the target of many an attack from those ranging from assassins to rouge warlocks and witches, many of whom seek to avenge their murdered kin. Camelot - Military Info: Shown to possess a very powerful military led by the Knights of Camelot; their coat of arms is seen to be a majestic golden dragon upon a vibrant red background, the knights and other high ranking officers wearing red cloaks over their armor, and have a reputation for being an extremely fearsome fighting force, as well as the greatest Knights in all of the five Kingdoms- the Knights themselves more than capable to hold their own despite being outnumbered two to one, however this is attributed to the fact that the Knights are professionally trained, and kept in good shape well through the yearly cycle.
Albion - Information
A landmass that constitutes the island currently known as Great Britain; the great land of Albion was once united in an age of peace, during which all of its inhabitants followed both the teachings and the traditions of the Old Religion- now home to many other Kingdoms, Albion has its times of great duress, between which peace is exceedingly rare. Now under the reign of Uther Pendragon, and thanks in large part to the Great Purge and the laws set in place against those who have the use of magic, followers of the Old Religion have become exceptionally rare within Albion; and it was during this time of grave division and hostility, Kilgharrah, the Great Dragon prophesied that together both Merlin and Arthur would reunite all the Kingdoms of the land back into Albion, and would once more revive the Old Religion, allowing those born both with and without magic to coexist in peace with the New Religion. Similar to any powers, its morality is reliant on that of the user- just as there are those whom would chose to use it for their own ends or to place harm upon others, there are those who are benevolent users of magic, and who wish for nothing more than to channel such an ability for good. Magic is a natural force, albeit an extremely powerful one, and as such it is classed as neither good nor bad, but simply a force that exists, and whom may be used however the user sees fit; and can be evoked voluntarily through spells, though also has the capability to manifest itself in uncontrolled manners such as prophetic dreams, or emotional outbursts. Containing its own set of laws, specifically when dealing with a power over both life and death; most magic is closely tied to the Old Religion, allowing the High Priestesses to have a greater understanding of such through their deeper proactive and study of the arcane art form, though there are many others who may possess various levels of power as well- some individuals demonstrating such great magical ability that they are foretold to be tied straight into the tapestry of fate and destiny, and unlike others who are able to wield such abilities, there are those rare users of magic who are able to learn the art form both rapidly and powerfully. Magic, a strong and powerful force of nature, can achieve an extremely wide range of different results, some of which include but are not limited to: shape-shifting, telekinesis, telepathy, slowing down of time, energy/ power blasts, summoning creatures or ancient forces, ect. Seen in many cases, the effects of magic can only be reverted by the use of further magic, or magic which has been combined with the might of a warrior or weapon- remember, magic is not just a tool to be used, it has its own set of rules that it follows, to the extent that in some cases, it is not rare for the enchantment to take on a will of its own. While there are those, such as Merlin, who can use magic intuitively and require little or no training to be able to manipulate their powers; there are others, such as Gaius (the court physician), whose magical power was needed to be developed over years of both study and practice, though ultimately, the path of a person’s ability is limited to the magical aptitude shown. Though there are those who are seen to possess their power from birth, many initially unlock their abilities when experiencing extreme emotional upheaval, which can in turn produce a loss of control over these particular powers, potentially leading to the cause of massive damage; however if the person in question lives surrounded by and among a magical race such as the Druids, or is trained, it is likely they will come to understand and control their abilities earlier, and more safely than isolated magical individuals. Though many individuals whom hold magical abilities involve the manipulation of real-world elements, there are some who wield more abstract concepts such as prophecy, telepathy, and mind control. Wielding magic, particularly for those without any innate magic, generally requires for incantations or spoken words of power derived from the Old Religion; many showing a preference to pronouncing a spell as it gives focus for the magic to be channeled- however, more experienced or naturally gifted magical individuals such as Merlin, Morgause, and Edwin Muirden have been seen to use non-verbal magic; a practice which appears to be linked to overall magical aptitude since Merlin, for example, can produce a wide array of effects without speaking a word, while others are far more limited and require further study and practice. A Deeper Look - Powers And Abilities Magic is capable of many different things, including the changing and controlling of the natural world (events, objects, people, physical phenomena) through mystical, paranormal and sometimes supernatural means- those of whom practice such art derived from occult sources are usually called ‘Sorcerers’, however, aside from warlocks and witches, there are many other supernatural beings who also share existence within the world; such as dragons, Sidhe, Trolls, Goblins, Lycans, Vampires, Druids, ect. As an extremely ancient art that has been practiced for countless centuries, and with many different life forms gifted with it, magic has varying branches of which have been developed over time to suit the many different types of practitioners whom use it- among these forms include: Sidhe magic (also used by pixies), Troll magic, the magic of the Old Religion (used by most human sorcerers), Dragonlord magic, elemental magic, and more.
Types Of Magic: Sidhe Magic: "The Sidhe are a vicious, and very powerful people. You must be careful." ~ Gaius. The magic of the Sidhe, and of the Pixies as well, is an exceedingly powerful and rich one- the spells of these races are spoken in the tongue of Old Irish, and are shown to produce a red iris color. The Sidhe are known masters of enchantments, and wield the capability of using magic that can both control and posses humans, open portals to Avalon; and at the very heart of Sidhe magic lies the power over both life and death which is written over their staves, which they use to help channel their powers. However, humans who are naturally gifted with magic do have the ability to master some aspects of this particular type of magic, though it is a very rare occurrence. It is unknown, however, just how powerful Sidhe magic is compared to the magic of the Old Religion, to the magic of the Dragonlords, and even to Troll magic- though it is said the Sidhe magic is both very ancient and very powerful, enough to possibly be able to negate the dragon magic of some weapons which have been blessed in the dragons breath.

Troll Magic: "Some trolls have the power to take any shape they please. This one has taken a shape that pleases you. You are besotted, My Lord. The creature has you in its power." ~ Gaius. Despite the unpleasant appearance and culture of Trolls; the form of magic used by these, and some other creatures, is very powerful to the point in which at one point, Dragons became allied with them- Trolls magic is not only quite powerful, but also decisively more potent than the magic used by the average Sorcerer, and is used more times than not for devious ends involving emotional manipulation, mind control, and creating general disorder in attempt to get what it is that they truly desire. While they appear to be resistant (to a point) to human magical spells and incantations, the fact that Trolls once held alliance with the Dragons indicates that even these noble of creatures have respect for their mighty power; which may even be more powerful than that of the Sidhe.

Magic Of The Old Religion: "The Old Religion is the magic of the Earth itself. It is the essence which binds all things together. It will last long beyond the time of men." ~ Kilgharrah. The magic of the Old Religion is spoken in Old English, and is the most frequently seen among human sorcerers and sorceresses, being the root of all human magic; and in some way, the essence of magic itself coincides with the Old Religion- while not only considered to be a simple belief of worship, but also an animated, or almost living essence or force of the universe that holds everything in balance, and as such it is also the source of magical power for the Dragons, the Dorocha, the Cailleach, the Dochraid, and the Dragonlords. Balance is indeed the key principle of magic and the Old Religion: in order for something to be taken or created, something else must be given or destroyed in its place- this is extremely clear in the rituals related to the power over life and death, or blood sacrifice, where a life is required to be taken; the most potent example of this is the circumstances of Prince Arthur’s birth, where in order for a life to be created within a barren woman, a life had to be taken in exchange, the result ending in the death of the Queen for the birth of her son. Even to cast the simplest of spells, there is probably a price to be paid: the energy the Sorcerer conjures into the world may correspond to a minor quantity of energy drawn from himself, while something bigger such as to negate or to destroy magic may cause the caster to collapse from the effort exerted. The magic of the Old Religion allows to weave power into the very fabric of the world; the very essence of nature, of the universe and the humans whom possess the gift of harnessing this energy to their own, can not only create, but also shape and manipulate it at their own will, making solid what it is within the mind, and un-solid what is already solid. The more the user can get in contact with the power of the Old Religion, the more they can achieve and conjure into the world; therefore, creatures of the Old Religion possess an incredibly strong power for this very energy lies within them- the High Priestesses or High Priests, because they dedicate their entire existence to serving the Old Religion, also have great an vast access to its power as well. Unless the Sorcerer or Sorceress is extremely powerful, or highly gifted within the craft (or his/ her emotions are seen to be heightened), most humans must channel their power with instruments of magic, through different types of rituals, or with different types of spells- magic, however, can be performed in many other ways when the conjurer is linked to the power of the Sidhe, or the Trolls; nevertheless, the Old Religion still, and always will remain the source of every power.

Dragonlord Magic: "You're the last Dragonlord now. You alone carry the ancient gift. Deep within yourself, you must find the voice that you and Kilgharrah share, for your soul and his are brothers. When you speak to him as kin, he must obey your will." ~ Balinor. The magic used by both Dragons, and Dragonlords, is a subcategory of the magic of the Old Religion, though it is based around a deep and potent bond between Dragonlord and Dragon which ties them together- in this way, a Dragonlord may bring forth an unborn Dragon from its egg by calling its speaking its true name. The magic of the Dragonlords is spoken in the tongue of Homeric Greek, and with this magic, Dragonlords are able to both talk to, and control dragons of various kinds- a gift that is passed from father to son; the son is only able to truly inherit his father’s powers after the father has passed away. Considered to be the most powerful magical creatures of all the world, Dragons possess the greatest magical knowledge and ability; able to not only effectively pass their wisdom they know to humans through their mind and breath, but also able to enchant and forge the most deadliest of weapons within the flames they are able to create. Assumed a linage which was long ago wiped out during the time of the Great Purge, there are very few Dragonlords left wandering, or living peacefully within the world; and even fewer still are the amount of Dragons filling the earth- the only known Dragon left alive being that of Kilgharrah, the great dragon held captive and shackled deep under the Camelot; however, there are rumors of another, a dragon egg resting within the tomb of Ashkanar, and waiting for the day that a Dragonlord calls it into the world.

Seer Magic: "It's said to be an innate ability. Those who have it are born that way. Some aren't even aware that what they see is the future. It comes to them in their dreams." ~ Gaius. Possessing the ability known as ‘the sight’, Seers are individuals with the power to see future events in both dreams and visions; the power of foresight is, however, not always helpful or as harmless as it may first seem to appear; the ability shown on more than one occasion that the very people who have the vision, are the ones who inevitably make them come to pass- nevertheless, events seem within visions do not always unfold as a seer is just able to see one of the many possible futures- besides foretelling of the future, Seers also seem to have similar abilities to those with other magical skills, and it is seen that a Seers dreams can be stopped from not making him/ her sleep at night if an enchanted piece of jewelry is worn, though this only stops simple visions, not prophecies. This gift is very rare and is an innate ability, meaning that those of whom possess it are born that way and cannot change it, however their powers may be inhibited to a limited extent by magical objects; similarly, a glance into a crystal from the Crystal Cave, such as the Crystal of Neahtid, can give somebody with magic a brief glimpse at the future, and of what could come to pass.

Elemental Magic: "Trust the elements that are at your command." ~ Kilgharrah. Elemental magic is an umbrella term used for a wide range of magical effects, and is used in relation to the manipulation of the four base elements that make up the aspects of the world surrounding those able to wield such powers: earth, water, air, and fire. When manipulated by a sorcerer sorceress, the elements can be used to perform very powerful magic which can in turn produce a vast array of results- generally however, magic performed through the manipulation of individual elements can be counteracted with magic invoking opposing elements.

Time Magic: "Magic must be studied, mastered, and used for good! Not for idiotic pranks!" ~ Gaius. This particular for of magic involves the manipulation of time itself, and while it can be used by human individuals who possess powers, is mostly used by gifted magical creatures; the ability itself allowing users to be able to slow down time around objects or certain places, and though it is seen to not require any spell or verbal command to incite the power, it is unknown as to whether or not such a thing is instinctive, allowing practitioners to change the reality around them by harnessing the power of the world to their own. This particular type of magic is rare, and is very difficult to use, and as recorded in recounts of history has only been mastered and achieved by the most powerful creatures of the Old Religion.

Goblin Magic: "Only an enchantment could cause Uther to lose his hair like that. I've no doubt the goblin is to blame. We must catch it before it does any real damage." ~ Gaius. Goblin magic, while considered to be a lesser form of magic, is that which is practiced by goblins; this particular type of power is performed non-verbally and without incantation to focus their spells and enchantments, and is commonly (more times than none) used to play tricks and pranks upon innocent people in order to gain gold, which is desired among the Goblins above all else- it is unknown just how powerful Goblin magic is in relation to other forms of the arcane art, however, wielders of such magic are able to possess other people’s minds and bodies, use telekineses, change the effects of potions, and much more.

Dark Magic: "The mandrake root is very special. Only those with magic can hear its cries. But for those without magic, the magic pierces the very recesses of the soul, twisting the unconscious into the very image of fear and dread. Uther Pendragon will find that his great kingdom counts for nothing, when he has lost his mind." ~ Morgause. Dark magic is a twisted strand of magic used by Sorcerers and Sorceresses with evil and ill intentions, and for the more sinister of purposes; although it is normally connected to what is called ‘the left-hand path’, and is mostly used for only personal gain, the magic itself is basically natural- the morality determined by how it is used, and what the motives are behind the actions of the conjurer, however, there are some applications of magic and some spells of which are used for the soule purpose of doing evil, or inflicting harm, such as causing destruction and misfortune, as well as either injuring or even killing a person.

Necromancy Magic: "Necromancy is the most dangerous of all magical practices. Even in the days of the Old Religion, such sorcery was viewed with the utmost suspicion. I know I'm going to regret asking this, Merlin, but why do you want to know?" ~ Gaius. The darkest possible form of magic, and the most dangerous of all its practices; necromancy deals with summoning and revealing shades, wraiths, spirits, and other forms of the undead- this particular arcane art is used to bring the dead back to life, and more times than none, to seek revenge or wreak havoc upon the innocent. Even during the days of the Old Religion, such practices were viewed with the utmost suspicion, though this claim holds slight irony as the manipulation of life and death was the main principle of the Old Religion. As a young Prince, Arthur was seen to be spoiled, narrow-minded, and extremely arrogant, though he was not without a good heart; and as he has grown older, he has also been seen to show a more mature side to him; mostly due to his dislike of the way in which his father rules over the Kingdom of Camelot- the Prince having negative opinions about Uther’s harsher policies. Morgana Le Fay is played by Vicier. The only one, aside from both Gaius and Uther, to know of her relationship with Morgana; she chooses to watch over her younger sister from afar, waiting for the right time to approach, and set her on the path she believes Morgana should be following. Said to be more than a thousand years old; Kilgharrah is Merlin’s mentor, friend, and like with all other living Dragonlords, his spiritual brother. Despite this, Prince Arthur believes the Druids to be a peaceful race of people that have decided to long ago keep well to themselves- though this has not stopped them from trying to warn Uther that his actions against those with magic would only lead to unnecessary provocation, the King has been relentless in his mindset, and has long sought and hunted them down from the time of the Great Purge. The Knights only coming to a stop once the Sorceress herself was killed, as without her power to animate them, they became lifeless; however, it is said that they can once again awaken if a strong enough power summons them back- while summoned, no weapon can harm or kill the Knights; only when the spell animating them is broken can they be stopped, and once more return to their rest. Dragons are magical creatures, they belong to no man. They are for the benefit of all.” ~ Merlin.
A once noble and powerful creatures, Dragons are majestic creatures of magic that once roamed not only all over Albion, but also all over the world until the time of the Great Purge when they almost became near-extinct by its climax- seen to be a very noble and powerful creature, the Dragons were known to be near-invincible, and humbled only by the Dragonlords whom were able to summon, control, talk to, tame, and kill them- according to the Old Religion, the Dragonlords are seen to be brothers to the Dragons, connected through their souls so that Dragons have no choice but to obey the word of the Dragonlords who command them. Dragons procreate by laying eggs which can remain viable for more than a thousand years, however, due to their special bond with the Dragonlords, the eggs are unable to be hatched without their help- the Dragonlords doing this by calling the unborn dragons into existence by naming the eggs occupant to bring them into the world; thus, even if there were an abundance of Dragon eggs in existence, if there were no more Dragonlords, none of them would be able to hatch. They are the voices of the dead, my child. And, like the dead, they are numberless.” ~ The Cailleach.
The Dorocha, otherwise known as ‘the shadow people’, are the voices of the dead who are only able to roam the earth at night- it is unknown as to whether all people who die become Dorocha, or just a portion, however, they are said to be numberless. Appearing as demonic and screaming/ shrieking skeletons that are creations of smoke; they are able to kill any mortal via touch, seemingly freezing them to death, and are only able to be repelled by both fire, or daylight. The Dorocha dwell within the Spirit World, and are separated from the living world by the veil, which can be torn open on Samhain when a High Priestess performs a blood ritual, or sacrifice- the mistress of the Dorocha is known as the Cailleach, the gatekeeper to the Spirit World. Able to bestow a runemark unto those found wanting by the Gods, though worthy of their judgement, the runemark itself not only contained a man’s guilt, but also the path in which the Gods themselves had chosen for him; showing why such a mark was viewed as both a judgement and a fate- the only ones believed powerful enough to change such a decided fate being the Gods themselves, and even then, only once he repents and appeases them. The three soothsayers divine using an ancient pool in which was fed by the sacred spring at Caerlanrigh; the source of the spring a grove of yew trees within the White Mountains called the Grove of Brineved- it is there, along with certain other places scattered about the land of Albion, that the Old Ways are at their strongest, being that the very center of the Disir’s powers is Caerlanrigh. PLEASE NOTE: When choosing a color for your character, please do not choose one that is already in use by another roleplayer! If you need the link, please let me know!

Characters - Information
Within this roleplay we will not only be accepting original characters (OC), but we will also be accepting cannon characters that have already been pre-established throughout the series of BBC’s Merlin; characters are not strictly limited to being Human, nor are you going to be limited to being a Sorcerer or Sorceress, feel free to have reign over what it is you would like your character to be like, either have them be from a pre-established race- or if you feel like creating your own race, please feel free to contact either me, or one of my Co-GM’s via PM or in the OOC about it beforehand, just to make sure that you have the okay. When it comes to making Dragonlords, there is a limit of two, one of these being Merlin himself- Dragonlords must also be of a different race from one another, for example: while Merlin is a human, the other Dragonlord will not be allowed to be human as well, but would in fact be allowed to be a Druid. In this case, the limit will have been reached, and another Dragonlord will not be permitted to be made until one has passed away in the IC for whatever reason. Those of whom are wishing to play cannon characters must demonstrate a strong writing ability (good grammar, punctuation, ect.), and must please message me and my Co-GM’s with a sample post of that particular character for consideration; if the character and sample has been accepted, then you shall indeed be notified as soon as possible, so that you may begin to create your CS, and bring them into the fantasy world we have all worked hard to create together. At this point in time, I am not going to be putting a limit on characters (aside from Dragonlords, of course); however at a later date, this may change, but please do not worry if by that time your character list exceeds the limit, no characters will be booted or removed from the roleplay- just please know that if, and/ or when this time does come, I will notify you all in the OOC. At this stage we are accepting all royals, rebels and villains from around the world- let your imaginations come to life, and have fun when creating your characters; and don’t be afraid to entwine their stories with the stories of others... with permission from that roleplayer of course. Just a small side note for all when it comes to character appearances; please... please try to use actual people for your face-claims, and not drawn or anime pictures- as your GM, this tends to be a pet-peeve of mine, and I would really appreciate it. Please post all completed CS's in the OOC for consideration. In advance, I thank you for your co-operation.
