You have to wonder how the thought process goes to think that's a good idea. "You know what would be great? A warcrimes RP. But it can't be a generic war-crimes setting; it has to be real-life. And it can't just be trying to SURVIVE it: you're the one doing it!" At that point I think the focus of the RP could shift away from being any sort of legitimate exploration of humanity in the face of or being forced to commit atrocities and more like a thinly veiled fetish in some manner. Especially when scored. Now if it were trying to survive and escape Japanese forces as Chinese civilians as well as players also being allowed to play as Japanese soldiers without the pretense that you need to kill and rape horribly if Japanese, maybe I could get behind it. But as it was proposed it's like making a Holocaust RP where you're the Nazi and you rank up through the RP through beating Jews to death.
Pretty much what I thought. I can see value in trying to write about the human elements of a real-world event like this, even on the side of the perpetrators. But just telling people to write atrocities and then scoring them on it? That's fucked.
