Some time ago, it had been one of her favorite sounds in the world; now, however, it was one that accelerated the boiling in her blood. Out of the corner of her eyes (because she was not going to face him in the current state she was in), Audrey watched as Alexandros moved one seat over and slightly turned his body to the side while keeping his signature arrogant smirk on his handsome face as he watched her sip her margarita. After he ordered another mojito, Alexandros said gleefully: “It must really sting that your male best friend ditched you for your female best friend.” Audrey closed her eyes, prayed to be blessed with the patience she so obviously lacked, and took few deep breaths that were meant to be calming, but failed miserably. "Alexandros, I do not have time for your shit right now." Audrey hissed at him, keeping her eyes closed. She was sure she'd spill her margarita all over him if she turned to look at him, so she thought it best to keep her current position. Of course, Alexandros had no respect for boundaries and continued his teasing without a care. “To make matters worse, he left you here with me — the guy you despise... Or maybe you don’t?” he added after a pause. Audrey felt the warmth of his hand now placed on her thigh, and her body acted up in the way it had always done when he touched her. She hoped she could mask this with her next words. "If you think for a second that I don't despise you, then you're crazy." Audrey replied with a sarcastic laugh, mirroring Alexandros' same arrogance. "Don’t think that I haven’t noticed those looks you shoot at other women that want to get with me. I know you still want me, Audrey…” Alexandros had whispered that last sentence, his body nearly closing to hers. "You really oughta get yourself checked out for that superiority complex, Al. It's really fucking up your brain. You're being really delusional right now." Instead of doing the reasonable thing of slapping Alexandros and getting away while she still could, Audrey found herself being pulled towards him as if some kind of magnetic force was bringing them together. She'd never been able to resist Alexandros and his charms; not even now, after he'd hurt her so badly. Seconds before their lips would unite in a longed-for kiss, Dominique ruined the moment by announcing the arrival of Imagine Dragons. Audrey's head whipped away from Alexandros and onto the stage just in time to watch the band members take their positions and begin to play. While she didn't like the band in the slightest, she was thankful they'd prevented her from doing something she might regret later. It seemed Alexandros was just as annoyed at the interruption as she was, because apart from that it showed on his face, he got up and took his mojito with him. But it wasn't like Alexandros to leave Audrey without some form of provocation, no. The guy always had to have the last word, one that would make her question everything she was feeling. “Come find me in Cabana Three. I’ll show you I’m right.” He said in her ear, giving her a teasing kiss along her earlobe that sent chills down her spine to prove his point, and walked away in the direction of the beachside cabanas. Audrey remained glued on her seat, mulling over everything that had just happened. Alexandos Mossos always found the way to rile her up: whenever in the good or the bad way. With his kiss, she'd been transported to all the times they'd been together as lovers: how they could practically set the place ablaze with how hot their sex was. She remembered how great he'd made her feel, what great adventures and thrills they'd shared, and she was so immersed in those thoughts that she'd forgotten what he'd done to hurt her so. Just as Audrey was almost at the verge of her seat to get up and walk over to Cabana Three for a hatefuck, her phone vibrated in the pocket of her robe. Her previous plan quickly dissipated into a cloud of guilt as she read the message and the name of the sender: My Fighter <3 I’m fucking coming, I hope you’re satisfied. Audrey's face went alight with a smile, which was quickly wiped off. Her sweet, sexy, strong, brave, darling fighter... Had she really been that close to betraying the guy that had treated her like nothing less than a goddess from day one over a douche-bag? God, Audrey, how fucking stupid can you be? No wonder nobody wants to stick around you for long... Her insecurities were back for another round, and her face suddenly morphed into the furious mask again. When she was nearly done with her margarita, Audrey felt a warm hand being placed on her shoulder. She jumped in surprise, but didn't act on it; she'd quickly figured out who it was when the ocean breeze had brought with it the scent of the person's perfume. It was the spicy scent of the man she'd spent that day with, the lingering scent she loved to smell on her bedsheets and her own skin after well-spent moments of passion. The man who could make the sun shine through the clouds on her darkest days with just a smile. Troy Markus Blake. Troy leaned down to her ear (she could feel his sweet, hot breath on it) and lightly kissed behind it. She knew there was a smile on his face when he whispered in her ear: “Hey, darling. Guess who just came in to save the day? Your superhero.” he told her before planting a kiss on her lips. As soon as their lips had made contact with each other, Audrey knew everything would be okay. Her baby was here: he'd keep her safe from the demons that tormented her. For the first time since she'd decided to have the affair with Troy, Audrey wasn't thinking about what people said or thought. As soon as her eyes fell on him, Audrey wrapped her arms around Troy and embraced him in a tight hug. "My baby... You have no idea how happy I am that you could make it, love. Thank you so much," she whispered to him with a grateful smile on her face. No sooner had Troy taken the seat next to him that she stood up,leaving her empty margarita glass on the bar counter. "No, no no! No time for sitting here. I need to talk to you alone. Let's get going." She took him by the hand and dragged him to the furthest cabana she could find. As she was passing the third one, however, she couldn't help but look back at the shadow of the person inside. In an alternate universe in which Troy wasn't in the picture, there was no doubt Audrey would've ran straight to that cabana to show Alexandros that he'd made a huge mistake by cheating on her and subsequently losing her. They'd spent the night together having wild sex, fanning the flames they had ignited in each other last year, only to wake up the next morning, get dressed and continue their respective lives acting as if nothing had happened. In Audrey's case, she'd drive straight home to beat herself up over falling for his irresistible charms again. Had she really wanted to do that to herself? As much as she couldn't deny she still felt for Alexandros, she knew he was toxic for her. And one look at Troy, his smile and the way he treated her, there was no way she would be risking something (whatever it was they had) this special over a moment of weakness with the wrong person. Alexandros Mossos was her past now. He was her first love, but whatever her feelings for him were, they were better off without each other. Once they were both inside, Audrey made sure to securely close the folds of white fabric giving them privacy before she settled down next to Troy. Then, out of nowhere, Audrey collapsed into a sobbing mess, the insecurities that had always been eating her coming out in the form of tears. She'd never allowed anyone to see her cry, not even when her heart broke into a million pieces each time she saw Alexandros after their break-up. She'd always made sure to portray a cold, heartless bitch to the world in order to avoid getting hurt, which meant holding in every single problem or feeling. But shutting and alienating yourself from others could only be done for so long. Audrey had reached her breaking point. "Why are you still sticking around me, Troy? Am I even good enough for you? You got what you wanted a long time ago, so should I be preparing myself for you to leave me and go pursue some other girl like the rest of them have done?" The questions came in between sobs as Audrey voiced aloud the things that had been tormenting her so.
