I could see your guy being in a knighthood order actually, when you mentioned golden armor I immediately thought of the Knights of Dawnburss. It would provide a healthy bit of irony and the armor itself could easily shroud any of his more vampiric features. As for the prestigious spot, he could be either a distinguished warrior within the order or a captain of sorts.

As for the angel part, I'm going to have to cut you off right there; in most fantasy angels and vampires do not mix unless you are reading some really shitty Twilight fanfic. However, if you want something close while still having a sense of special snowflake that's not nearly as overbearing as angelic-vampire, why not have it be that your man can only use Book of Blessing magic instead of the more traditional Book of Murder or Book of Chaos that would normally fit vampires.

I can see a lot of character growth that could stem from that idea with your guy having to eventually choose between accepting his vampire blood or staying true to the Order's ways after having walk a fine line of balance and lies to keep it covered up.
