They have large, compound eyes that give them remarkable sight and their average intelligence is rather high due to their larger brains. The smaller creatures have a high metabolism compared to average humans due to the increased energy needed for their large brains. That said, most of the time one can see Obera eating or drinking some sort of foodstuff. They are also usually seen in a air tight suit from the neck down to conserve heat that their frail bodies put off but fail to retain due to their thin builds. Obera have an overly calm demeanor and handle stress rather well. Their personal religion is a science based god that sparked creation. Obera believe that upon death they are reincarnated so their fear of loss of life isn't quite as strong as many others. The second most prolific race is the Trilari. They are strange four armed bear like creatures. They can walk on using just legs but prefer to walk on four, using the other two limbs for labor and tasks. Trilari stand on average, six to eight feet tall standing upright. Trilari aren't naturally as bright as the Obera and did not achieve warp capabilities on their own but rather by the Obera needing a military unit that was highly capable, learns fast and naturally tough. There are a multitude of other races that are member species and for those seeking a new home, any person from any nation are welcomed into their borders and most likely, many of the largest races in the galaxy have some population demographic living within. This proficiency has demanded technologies to not only detect these types of camouflage but also at great distances. This by no means is full proof but their sensors are pretty damn good. Another area they excel is propulsion, particularly gravity acceleration. This is in part due to the "hyperspace lanes" that branch from one end of the nation to the other. These lanes are quite literally space highways that are pre plotted and likely some of the heaviest patrolled and defended regions of space. They make heavy use of accurate and high powered energy beams and disabling gravity projectors. This is done not only by the Unions capitol ships but their corvette "cruisers" as well. Missile technology is quite advanced as well as methods to jam them. Direct kinetic weaponry exists but having a shell miss and head into a densely populated area is frowned upon and avoided whenever necessary. Drones are a very common sight in the nation. From floor sweeping disks to massive drone carrier craft, they are all purpose and are a high end export. Energy shields exist in the form of gravity repulsers, capable of destabilizing energy by deflecting it away akin to a mirror reflecting light. This, coupled with strong armor plates gives the nations military and lane patrols an edge against would be pirates and other nations seeking to disrupt the steady flow of commerce through one of the most heavily populated regions of space. This union grew rapidly as technologies and cultures were exchanged. It didn't take them long to rise to a super power status. One established, they created the hyperspace lanes to further unite their internal races. When other nations were found and relations were peaceful, lanes were created on their borders to allow rapid transit to wherever they choose to do their business. At present, the Union doesn't hold a monopoly on trade or travel in the galaxy but it does provide some of the safest and direct travel routes from one side of the galaxy to the other, and not at very much expense. [color=lightblue][h3]Government[/h3][/color] The government is a federal republic with each individual member race having sovereignty in the nation. This republic has a structure with a lead president, a nations senate and the "laws and affairs" which encompasses all courts and military assets. The president has an overriding authority in many cases with the exception of being able to declare war or make changes to the constitution. Most people view the president merely as a figurehead and symbol seeing as any one who was born in the nation is eligible to become the president. The senate is made up of three representatives of each region that member races hail from, regardless of regional size. The representatives are selected from each region by general elections. The law and affairs oversees the military and courts. The nations military is dual purpose, defending the borders and upholding law and safety. The military in comparison to their nation size is rather small. Its very much modern and capable of fighting a war if need be but to put existing forces on the front line in enough numbers to really make a difference, it'd rapidly drain their lands of defenders. This is the reason the Union employs large ships like the Liberty battleship, which is part front line warship and part carrier. These ships hold massive amounts of corvettes and fighters giving them the ability to operate far from home, and for long periods of time yet still be able to field a smaller navy. Be it pirates, mercenaries or in the worst case a nation seeking violence... The military does everything in its ability to defend freedom and liberty in its charge. These are pursuit vessels designed by corporations that make racing vessels, giving the law enforcement a true edge against would be criminals. Diplomacy to solve issues is paramount as they've known from experience that violence only leads to reparations and that's earned money just given away. Beneath the glamour of a very prosperous trade nation is a mildly corrupt system. Many are legitimate patriots and should a war break out, likely pick up a gun in defense of their nation but between conflicts you have everything from back alley drug dealers to mega corporations pretty much controlling a region through their representatives. There are so many things wrong in a nation that has no real demand for morals, save the base ones of taking care of children and defense of the nations borders. Even a powerful education can't prevent scum so they just sort of brush it under the rug, only going after the ones that cause the most issues. Mega corporations hold a lot of sway in certain regions. An prime example is 'Ghrrafgtoofoku grakhioof'ipook coppoab.' Or in human, Rogers solar group, which is a star harvesting company that uses massive solar sails to collect particles that are used to make high end batteries. This company alone employs over 5.1 million people so its voice in its region is very large. It won an exemption in taxes due to what they called charitable profits, saying that its investments in healthcare for its workers was technically a medical charity. This was highly controversial in its time as many private healthcare corporations and organizations still had to pay certain taxes but the overwhelming checkbook and voice of the solar group snuffed them out. [color=lightblue][h3]Other[/h3][/color] The galaxy's U.N. has a major presence in the Union due to its very central location. It is likely where they have the largest of any peacekeeping forces and logistics, should they need them. Far more exists as so many different entities design and compete for military contracts within the Union but here is the Primary Government breakdown. They are moderately armored and armed but their real strength lies with their excessively powerful engines and gravity projectors or more lovingly called 'Tractor beams'. More of these are seen than most any other ship type as they openly monitor and patrol the space lanes. They contain a total of five interceptors or equivalent and usually two non combat. Rescue and logistics. These ships are moderately armed but heavily armored and comes with the standard issue gravity projector for catching those pesky criminals. Firepower: Medium Armor: Medium Shield: Medium Speed: Slow Atmosphere capable. [/hider] [h2][color=orange]Navy[/color][/h2] The navy utilizes heavy armor and shielding to offset the general lack of speed of the largest of their vessels. With the high end defenses comes a hefty price tag in terms of raw resources needed to build a single Liberty class. Union navy uses a large variety of weapons in the form of CIWS kinetic guns that are the bane of missiles and strike craft that get too close and up to the energy projector which is currently the pride and joy of the Union. The multi-missile is basically a fast torpedo that can utilize various warheads in a single or MIRV configuration. These aren't particularly amazing except for their large numbers and numerous combinations of warheads per single missile. Plasma bolts are the most common weapon used as they are far more destructive than typical lasers. The drawback is they aren't instant hit like a laser array. Luckily its not that big of a deal when you're firing bolts from many weapon hard points in astounding numbers. Ion arrays are a dying weapon in the union. They are a direct fire beam weapon that does amazing damage but their lack of decent range and high consumption of power really put the plasma cannon at the top. This weapon is usually used in far lesser power, by mining groups that crack massive asteroids in a single sweep. The energy projector is a relatively new weapon that came out when the Liberty and Maledict classes arrived. The weapon is an overpowered magnetic matter projector that pushes any energy of any type into a coalesced beam of epic proportions. These are typically dial a yeild enabling precise cutting or large enough to blast through a planet given enough time. The biggest drawback as that it draws power from special batteries and the drive core, and draws alot. Common practice when using it is a park and shoot with shields to maximum. The weapon does scale with its parent ship, meaning the maledicts' variant is ten fold stronger than the liberty type. It operates as a frontline fighter bomber in both space and surface engagements. It's modular build allows it to carry infantry or cargo albeit at the cost of mobility and certain heavier weapons being inoperable. Regardless of this, these quick ships are moderately armed and armored but these are easily adaptable by adding high end shield emitters or heavy weapons to its high load capacity. Firepower: Medium, although its modular design can allow it to be Heavy. Armor: Light, again, modular design can boost this as well. It was designed with one purpose, destroying missiles and strike craft. It excels at this duty as its designed for speed and a very wide fire arc. The biggest drawback is the inability to operate in atmosphere with the exception of falling through it. It does contain a short bursting gravity pulse that mitigates the ground impact if it were to be ditched on a planet. This ship is most likely one of the most deadly vessels that the Union possesses for its class. Extremely flexible and maneuverable, a modular build to swap out heavy cannons for a barrage of missiles and the ability to have an adapter that enables it to be a drone makes it very proficient and valuable to the Union. Firepower: Medium, This can be upgraded by changing out specific weaponry Armor: Medium Shield: Light Speed: Very Fast, and highly maneuverable. It still sees mass use as a reserve ship and border patrols. It can carry a very large strike craft compliment on top of its massive armaments and defenses. This ship has long served the Union and is almost a symbol of their military might. The ship has been through enough modifications to label it a Mk XI but its finally reached the point were upgrades cannot fix the design. Firepower: Heavy Armor: Medium Shield: Medium Speed: Slow Is one of the few Capitol ships of its massive size that can operate in atmosphere. Although these ships are nearly twice as expensive as a Constallation, it's combat trials have usually ended with a single Liberty downing two or more Constellations before going down themselves. The ship can carry very large amounts of strike craft and non combat ships. These are a somewhat common sight along the space lanes as it operates as a carrier of sorts even though it can theoretically go toe to toe with most ships of its class. Firepower: Heavy Armor: Heavy Shield: Heavy Speed: Slow Current upgrades are under way to change out the drive system that would technically make it a medium speed combatant. ship this big moving that fast is the goal, shock and awe. They have too many guns and too heavy armor for a nation like the Union but their belief was they needed a true show of force to let their neighbors know they mean business. If this ship doesn't prove that then nothing will. Maledicts carry an vast amount of fighters and non combat ships and can actively service any class of a Liberty or below. It was created as a mobile fortress/space dock concept around the time the Liberty was designed. As this ship is relatively new, only a small amount of these exist but that will change soon as there are many under production and on order. Firepower: Excessive Armor: Excessive Shield: Excessive Speed: Not excessive. Along with the Liberty, new drives are being designed that could put it in a medium class speed that can keep up with the much smaller Liberty warships. This, on top of their epic size, is a very dangerous attempt as many fear that captains might lose control of their ship, too much power to handle and possibly hit something if they were in close quarters. People who fear this are advocates of short range FTL jumps to close the gap between it and its victims. The ship is absolutely not capable of atmospheric entry other than crashing into a planet.
