Rather than explain himself to the new pirate captain he decided to let Zypha experience just how tough Yami was thus how ineffective his hornets were. That didn't mean he was gonna sacrifice the remainder of his forces though so he ordered the ones that were blown away rather than killed to come back. Even though the majority apparently  had survived he was still running low.

He watched the turtle-man attack Abi without any way for his hornets to interfere. Still he knew it was his fault she was in danger right now, so he tried to push her out of the way.
