Unfortunately, Gigi doesn't see Melon Drop as a close friend yet because Gigi has yet to share some of her fears, insecurities, and skeletons in the closet with her. 

Maki probably has seen Gigi hide in the corner of the home ec room while a thunder storm was going on. Probably also that she's adopted (and was an orphan/abandoned).
