The thing about the Drakken is that even the merciful ones are really brutal. They're raised in such a way that even mercy is hardcore. I'd recommend reading some of Torin and Tyrai Hellsong's posts in the reboot - if I remember correctly, Torin had the hardcore merciful thing down pretty well for the mood of the story.
