[@Kouki]It's less about the actual fighting and more about how 'fun' it would be to deal with. I have no beef with dodging attacks or escaping setups, but when it's something as effortless as an ability that allows it is when I get skeptical. Had I made a ranger centered around battle, I wouldn't be pressed; part of growing is failure, and even if I made a youth donning the mantle of a ranger I'd be happy to let them lose so they can come back stronger from the encounter. But it's hard to trust people with the power of instantaneous movement--which I assume Stekk was going for, since I don't recall any limits put in place other than the dagger mechanic. Fun and challenging can be one and the same, but that might also ask for character limitations, and in my experience most people don't like leaving holes. Stekk talked about how it will hold his entire weight and how it travels faster than the average dagger, narrowing the window of vulnerability due to travel time that would normally be required. I see the flaws in his design and know how to counter it, but that isn't the point. My point is how long can one handle the possibility that their efforts are made wasted because he decides that he's fast enough to throw his weapon out of the way--a weapon that travels faster than a typical weapon of similar type--and renders everything useless? It takes a great deal of trust not to abuse the power of complete avoidance. Generals are meant to be tough, and that's the idea. I get that. But if every encounter is going to come down to speed and who decides they avoided what, I'm afraid that things might become repetitive. But I don't decide who will get bored, this is just my own fear that's putting that in my head. I've had the displeasure of dealing with speed and evasion based writers years back and it's turned me off to the playstyle--or writing style I guess I should say--almost entirely. This isn't Stekk's problem, it's pretty much mine. I got worried and brought it up because I don't want anyone getting pissed about how these early fights might go. I don't know a lot of things. I don't know how he'll write this character, how he'll use her, or how everyone will respond to what challenges come their way. So I'm going to just shut up now and let this be handled how it'll be handled when it appears. So until this starts--or if I'm @mentioned or whatever--I'm going to just keep silent. Sorry about that folks.
