Although he could not see him as he ran because of his supersonic speed, Cyclops knew that the son of Magneto probably did something to express his frustration, such as sticking his tongue or giving the leader of the X-Men the middle finger. While this move did make them short one man, there was no place for anyone on the X-Men who would endanger the lives of his teammates. Furthermore, Cyclops and Colossus were the ones initially assigned to this mission. Quicksilver was only sent as extra-help. “Iceman. A little help up here.” Cyclops called out to Bobby Drake. In response, Iceman produced a stalagmite of ice that rose up to where Cyclops was standing. Once the stalagmite was stable, Cyclops took hold of the ice structure and slide down it, as if it was like a fireman’s pole. The stalagmite was slightly angled so that the field commander of the X-Men would not fall straight down to the ground. While it seemed as if the X-Men were preoccupied by safely getting Cyclops down to the ground level, Spider-Man’s doppelganger retrieved a handgun from the Firestar impostor, revealing that this woman was the one who fired a bullet at Cyclops a few minutes ago. The man stood up and pointed the firearm in the direction of the X-Men. When the doppelganger had lined up the gun with Iceman, he was about ready to pull the trigger. However, a burst of red energy knocked the would-be assassin off his feet. Even though he was descending on the ice stalagmite that Iceman had created, Cyclops still had a watchful eye. When he caught sight of what the doppelganger was about ready to do, Cyclops clicked the visor trigger that was located on his glove, since he could not press the one on his visor due to needing both hands to safely descend to the ground. This was the precise reason why Professor Xavier and Scott decided to add the glove triggers: only having an activation button on the visor would make his mutant powers useless if he could not press it. “Nightcrawler!” Cyclops commanded as he pointed towards the two impostors, “Teleport them into one of the cages! And make sure they don’t have any other weapons on them.” Almost as soon as Cyclops had finished speaking, the blue imp lunged into the air before disappearing into a purple and black puff of smoke that smelled of sulfur. One moment, Nightcrawler appeared next to the two doppelgangers. At the next, only a similar sulfur-smelling cloud of purple smoke remained, along with a single glock. When Nightcrawler reappeared beside his allies, the two impostors were lying down within one of the cages that had imprisoned Firestar and Nightcrawler. “But who will bind the bars back into place? Spidey is injured!” Firestar asked Cyclops as she pointed towards the bars that Spider-Man had bent in order to release her and Nightcrawler from their respective cages. What go was it to put them in them if they could just squeeze through the bent bars. “I can do that.” The X-Men heard a voice with a Russian accent from the far side of the room. Colossus had finally returned from making sure they had an escape route. And in his arms, the colossal X-Man carried Herbert Landon, who had tried to flee from the scene while the X-Men were busy with the two doppelgangers. “I discovered this little rat was trying to scramble away into his mouse hole”. After he dropped Landon onto the ground with a thud, Colossus walked over to the cage that contained the two doppelgangers. The X-Men were not sure whether these two individuals were mutants or mutates, although it would not make sense for them to work for such a mutant-hating bigot like Landon if they were the former, they could change their appearances like chameleons. “I was so close at finalizing my formula!” Landon shouted out in anger, “If it wasn’t for you and that pesky Spider-Man, I would have been famous. II would have been known as the man who solved the mutant crisis!” “Wait, did he just unironically make a Scooby-Doo reference?” Peter winced as he covered the knife would on his leg with a coating of webbing. “This game is over.” Cyclops responded to Landon’s cries of outrage, although he did ignore what Spider-Man had said, “We’re going to turn you over to the proper authorities and let them give your whatever justice you deserve.” “Never!” Landon shouted back, “Anyways, who do you think they will believe? Me, a well-respected industrialist, or you colorful-costumed freaks? You’re the ones who broke into my facility!” “And you kidnapped our friends.” Cyclops barked back. “Did I ever…” Landon began to say, but when he began to stand up, he lost his balance on the floor that was slick because some of the frozen green liquid began to thaw. Landon fell backwards, sliding over the liquid-covered floor until he slammed into the pile of the “formula” snow. Even though only half of his body hit the snow, Landon nevertheless shrieked in pain. He almost immediately scrambled away from the semi-frozen substance, revealing that the half of his body that had made contact with the formula that he had created was turning green and hairless. “The irony. A man so focused on trying to cure a so-called disease did not see how it would affect a regular human being.” Cyclops muttered out loud. Then he turned towards his team and Spider-Man. “I think our job is done here. We’ll make an anonymous tip on our way out. Also, need a ride, Spider-Man?” Peter looked down at his thigh and then back at Cyclops. Although his accelerated healing factor was already repairing the wound, Peter thought that it would be better if he would allow it to heal completely. “You know what, I don’t want to kill myself trying to get home, so why the heck not.” Herbert Landon would have protested even more, had he not succumbed to the pain that pierced the contaminated half of his body. As Spider-Man and the X-Men departed from the facility, making sure to call 9-1-1 once they have left, Landon collapsed to the ground, where the paramedics discovered him.
