Today, conflict is a regularity and in the near future, this remains the case. To be brutally honest, it always has been, being a part of the dominant, most intelligent and most successful species of the planet. From ethnic wars, to insurgencies, to civil wars, to the grand battles between the greatest nations of the world, fighting is nothing new. For many, it's the most horrible thing imaginable, for others, it's a means to and end, for quite a few, it's a business... For some, it's a life. These men and women fight all over the globe, but also no where at all, they fight loud and they don't fight at all (or do they?), they are from all walks of life and yet the same. They take the AFU out of SNAFU's. Most of the time. This is their story. And Hell, it might end up being quite the tale. [hr] Introducing Non-Standard Operators, a RP that is [s]un[/s]fortunately not about telephone operators. As you might have guessed so far, this is in fact a RP telling the exploits of an as of yet unnamed group of soldiers and so far, it probably sounds pretty generic. The catch is that I, as someone with no military service to speak of, only know about warfighting and soldiery from what I've seen in games and read fanatically on internet sites and articles. These soldiers will reflect that, as their name suggests and all the normal rules will be thrown out the window, almost as if they were unknown to them. Not to say it won't be realistic, in fact, realism will be a primary goal and be very appreciated, but you can expect anything and everything that gets in the way of the missions of these characters to be completely disregarded, along with anything else that they just don't like, from the small things like saluting superiors and ranks, to Rules of Engagement and, fittingly, Standard Operating Procedures. They may be crazy, not all of them, but no one can really be sure, since most are too afraid to ask. And honestly, I'd love to hear ideas from anyone else hoping to get involved in this. This may still seem quite generic, but I want to make this interesting yet fun, realistic, yet laid-back in character and perhaps atmosphere from time to time. There's also a lot of decisions I have yet to make for this that I'd be happy to share with everyone in this. Things like the unit's name, whether it'll be combined arms or just infantry, types of missions... Any ideas are definitely welcome. I want to be clear that I don't want this to be Call of Duty RP #782, there's still going to be realism, but I want not only the RP to be as open and free as possible as the actions the characters can take in it.
