I've always found -kinesis powers to be the broad manipulation of. Kinesis is just known as a movement, or motion, whereas -mancy means "divination by means of". I've always used things like Geomancy when referring something directly to magic, but anything else I would use the kinesis suffix. They both essentially mean to take control or manipulate that substance/element/whatever it may be in some way. What you're saying makes sense honestly.
