Name
Vaughtar
Age
230
Gender
Male
Species
Gargoyle
Appearance
Bypassers commonly interpret him as an untreated case of giantism, combined with a personal preference for bodybuilding. He stands more than 8', has extremely thick bones and no less prominent muscles. He appears dark and pale, including his eyes. The only hair on his body is a goatee long enough to dangle from his chin. There's a pair of leathery wings on his back that can be folded together to a compact limb that he hides beneath a cloak.
Personality
Though he looks very intimidating, his behaviour is dominated by non-hostility. Violence is not an option for him unless he feels threatened. Within the supernatural community he is rather outspoken, but to all others he appears as a silent behemoth. He makes a secret of where he exactly lives - that information could easily cost him his life if anyone malicious came to know it.
Skills/Abilites
Vaughtar can read, write and do basic math, but aside from that and the historical knowledge about the country he has been living in for more than two centuries, he's pretty uneducated and untrained. However this should not be confused with a lack of intelligence. It's a matter of access to that education. The strength he has to rely on is..well.. his physical strength that surpasses that of a human being by far and the ability to take a very serious amount of punishment before running into problems. He can carry another person with him into the air (as long as not too heavy). He has improved eyesight, including nightvision.
Weaknesses
He moves sluggishly (especially on his feet) and one can't expect him to fight in an agile, evasive or even sneaky way. His size and extreme weight simply don't allow him to do so and there's not much he can do about it. He needs to regenerate as humans do, however a gargoyle's equivalent to having a nice slumber in a bed is to turn from flesh to stone the moment the sun rises above the horizon - no matter if he can actually see it or not. As humans can delay falling asleep, he can delay that transformation, but doing so weakens him continuously until the next sunrise simply forces him to give way to the urge. Although he is a magical creature to the core, he is not able to actively cast any spell.
Brief history/background
Vaughtar was created by an unknown chiseller during the so called gothic revival in the late 18th century. Most scholars think that gargoyles are the result of a specific type of magical anomaly - that yet is very little known about - attaching itself to those large blocks of stone meant to look like intimidating fantasy creatures. Others think that the chisellers themselves applied the magic. There is simply not enough evidence to confirm any of those theories. Since the gothic era and its renewals have ended a long time ago, the birth rate has virtually dropped to zero. Vaughtar himself has never met the one that carved him, so he can't tell either. For about the last two centuries, it was rather easy for him to hide, but a growing population, massively increased city illumination, shrinking retreat areas and the ubiquitous presence of cameras forced him to switch strategy. Today he works as a bouncer for a rather prominent discotheque on the outskirts of London.
