It's a problem with emulation itself. You can't save a battery file to load on that game. Regaurdless of what you do, you cannot progress to aftergame events. You can tackle the elite 4, but DO NOT save a snapshot after/during the challenge. You can bypass the whole aftergame deal anyway with codes. Hell, you can catch unobtainables with codes too. I never used codes, but I planned on it for things like celebi and jirachi and deoxys. Now I'd have to entirely restart the game to actually see those. :/
