Thus, you have the giant, brick house man who somehow fills out a suit well without making it look ill-fitting and tacky. To add to that, he boasts a 6'2" height so all that build isn't as stocky as it really should be and there's a hint of lithe agility to the bend of his back and hunch of his shoulders. Despite the raw, inherent intimidation factor of having a mile of muscles to follow through a punch, Teddy earns his nickname well: the guy's got the softest, most genuine face of anyone in his family. Blue eyed terror with the sweetest puppy dog look able to defeat even the round, pouty expression Rose somehow pulls off in spite of her spitfire attitude. Half of Teddy's wardrobe aims for high-class lawyer, with a numerous amount of suits tailored specifically for him. Most of them he received as gifts after graduation and even more so after his first 'Cold Case Murder' success. The only one's he'd afforded to buy himself can hardly be called suits, as, to even fit his frame, they'd been store bought and about five sizes too large on him. They don't fill out well and tend to be last minute, hasty outfits. The second half of his closet can only be considered 'farm-boy couture' as they tend to be on the flannel side of things - they're usually the only things that fit. He's got a few nice t-shirts, some casual logo shirts with favorite movies and bands (and a lot of Marvel paraphernalia). Then there's the row and row of grandpa khakis and worn out jeans, with a few skinny jeans both his brother and sister bought him for shits and giggles. Yeah, he wears them and yeah it's because they make his ass look nice as hell. The rest of his closet can be described as shoes upon shoes upon shoes. He's got a very, very detailed assortment just for one man. It's kind of ridiculous. Teddy actually fits the style of clothes well, keeping his walk stern and deliberate with a strict pacing. He's very adamant about how he's perceived just by a glance and it helps that he demands presence with just his walk, even if he can't really hold it much after. Despite the confidence in his chest, Teddy can't quite hide the stress that weighs his shoulders down and he tends not to be able to look people directly in the eyes. It's not quite noticeable unless anyone's actually looking for it. He hides a lot of his own nerves in the smooth, bass silk of his voice - it comes off sincere and not at all what many people expect. It's got a city drawl to it, quick and fast, though he's known to be a slower talker than most of his family. That smooth quality doesn't vanish in the diction in his words; clear as glass and just as smooth.
Scent
Smells of rosemary and parchment, a deep scent usually masked by lavender body wash. The fact that solitude found itself inherent in Teddy - belying a more introverted nature - helped the boy get through most of his adolescent age. Of either sibling, Teddy fared as the quieter one with minimal fuss and only the occasional tantrum. A happy baby meant a happy mother, even though the loud and raucous Roosevelt came only two years after. "Two years. That's enough to gain my bearings. Boy, did I need it," his mom would chime in any time Rose made a fuss and huffed and puffed her way through the house. Teddy didn't quite know what she meant until he understood the hard work his mother had to put in for each of her kids and that came years later, when he grew out of his teenage "rebel" phase. His father uses that term in a light, joking manner because the only rebelling Teddy did came in the form of taking in stray animals. The hurt of knowing they'd have to go after being brought to good health faded with time. However, as the years passed by and Teddy grew a passion undeniable for his work and the subjects he studied (something only recently found out; he didn't know the extent of his own fire), Teddy had his own fall and slip. His unfortunate cold case growing warm and red affected Teddy deeply and he sought comfort in his family, even if it only meant Teddy quietly organizing the bookcase or tending to his mother's garden for her or cooking a meal in the silence of their kitchen. Unfortunately, the change had already surfaced and his parents always had an easy time reading him when others couldn't. Teddy grew a second skin over his chest and a stone layer over his heart. All the things he loved, all the things he cared about, they still remained; Teddy only distanced himself from them, not letting himself sink his hooks into any one thing. His shoulders seemed more taught and his head hung low and he didn't quite meet anyone's eyes - much less, animals they kept seemed veritably attached to laying their head on his lap and refused to move an inch if he did. Teddy refuses to believe the change and basks in his own ignorance, happy to dive into a piece of paper and write than face his past head on, even when he willingly takes any medication handed to him.
Likes & Dislikes
✔ The Sun on His Face ✔ Quiet Afternoons ✔ Affectionate Dogs ✔ Gardens and Parks ✔ Fresh Fall Air ✔ Candy Apples ✔ Pumpkins ✘ Being Rushed ✘ Getting Stumped ✘ Being Underestimated ✘ Hasty First Impressions ✘ Handshakes ✘ Letting People Touch Him In General ✘ Ice Cream
Hobbies
Teddy loves to write poetry on his time off, as well as tend to his garden. He's kind of a mellow guy outside of his suit and tie. When the time calls for relaxing, he doesn't waste one second of it. Outside of poems and gardening, Teddy tends to jog and do extensive workouts, as well as stress cook until he's filled his entire fridge with a weeks worth of chili, a cake, and a bunch of cookies. One of his tells happens to be coming into the office with a freshly cooked lasagna and a cake too large for one person.
History
With a career option as wide as law and his older brother taking the glory by achieving feats not meant for someone his age, Theodore didn't have much to prove. Honestly, he could have dropped out of high school and just become a cop after getting his GED, gone to the military even, or he could have aced all his classes and become a lawyer. Honestly, it didn't matter, as long as he landed in some kind of law enforcement work - that, his parents stressed. Teddy didn't actually mind the hard guidance, though his sister took on a much different approach to their stern hand. Having only been older than Roosevelt by two years, Teddy had the wide berth of two years to see his sister spiral completely out of control. Unfortunately, he didn't have much success in ever being there for her and that grew a rift between two rather close siblings. After going off to college, Teddy tried his damn best to keep in touch, but never quite succeeded in that matter. Too ashamed of his failure, Teddy took to starting a PI firm in Pittsburgh and only keeping somewhat in touch with his family. That didn't come as much of a problem for his father, thinking he just wanted to stabilize himself, however his mother took it as a personal blow and never quite felt she succeeded in raising her middle child, or youngest daughter, for that matter. It wasn't until Teddy fell on a cold case issued by the state's police department that he moved back, reconciled with his family, and took to reattaching the roots that he thought withered. A young child by the name of Amanda Rothschild had gone missing and the main suspect had been her father. Unfortunately, they'd found the father dead in his flat in downtown Philly. Forensics had determined the Mr. Rothschild had been killed by a large, sharp object a week before his estranged daughter went missing. Later, after evidence against Mr. Rothschild being the culprit, the mother went missing and thus was never found. Teddy had come in after the case went cold, to further investigate so that the rest of the law force could turn their attention elsewhere. He'd found the girl alright, after a month of searching and dead ends. She and her mother had been taken to a warehouse in the countryside and set upon by dogs. The men suspected, after further evidence had been gathered, had been thrown into jail after their court hearing. Teddy hasn't been able to sleep since and, thus, the event drove him to his family's arms even as he'd been lauded for his work. Once things had settled down and Teddy had reconciled with his sister over a long, long discussion over buckets of ice cream, he set up a firm close to the police department with the help of his father. From there on he mainly only took work from the public, investigating fraud and stolen credit cards, even cheating spouses and lost animals. It didn't provide much money, not as much as working for a company or for the police, but it paid the bills and it helped him sleep at night (with the added benefit of medication). However, with a case in Red Ford coming up dry with no leads to speak of, his father has asked him personally to help investigate for the case. The town seemed too small to offer any more assistance when they still had all of Philadelphia to cover. He accepted the job and did his best to talk his father out of paying for temporary shelter, knowing the case might take more than just a few weeks. Now, Teddy's settled in to a small home outside of Red Lake and continues working closely with the Red Lake Police, assisting in anyway that he can.
Family
Kennedy Price Welles | Mother | (65)
[sub]A forensic scientist who retired in the late nineties to pursue her dream of writing a book.
