[@Athinar] I don't know. I didn't realize there was an "outside" group. I thought it was a gathering place, but if it's a permanent living place, Adam would most definitely want to live there because it fits to his self-important taste. If it gives him extra protection, he'd definitely be in on the action.

[@Tombprince] Backstory could be fairly simple. Adam came across Steffan one night, planning to feed and ditch because he assumed he was drugged up and would have no memory of the event. When he realized Steffan seemed to be schizophrenic, Adam found it amusing and coerced him into coming along with him. Perhaps Steffan agreed because the pain of being bitten provides temporary grounding to visible reality?
