Name: Dijah (Dee-HAH) Callisto
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Race: A Totally Normal Human. Why? Do you doubt her?
Appearance: Dijah is quite tall, standing at 6'4", and when not fitting into the Academy uniform is often dressed in attire that ranges from the strange and exotic of her homelands to the stuffy casual wear that passes as 'stylish' in this corner of the world. Her hair, which is a beige sort of tint, is always in a side ponytail. If it wasn't for the silly dress code of the Academy, Dijah wouldn't wear shoes. And she really wants people to stop asking about the ears, it's just how her people are.
Personality: Dijah is rather loud and boisterous, befitting one who is so tall, but she has a rather simple, almost naive, outlook on the world. To her, everything is very simple and problems come in the form of 'do it' or 'don't do it' with no room for an inbetween option. She often goes for the 'do it' option which has the unfortunate side effect of having her rush into things without fully understanding them. More often than not this leads to trouble for the girl but she always seems to come out of any situation laughing and oblivious to the trials and tribulations. It's only when she's performing her main ability that the jovial girl becomes more serious, speaking in lower tones and with serious, carefully chosen words. Divination, after all, is no laughing matter.
Abilities: Dijah's magical affinity lies in the art of cartomancy, or card based magic. This is a fancy way of saying that Dijah's biggest and most notable ability is her ability to tell fortunes with her deck of cards. She doesn't use Tarot, but rather multiple decks of seemingly average playing cards to read fortunes or engage in divination. Though a fortune teller first and foremost, Dijah is also able to channel more offensive based magicks through her card decks, with each suite having a different effect and the face cards being the most powerful. Hearts are flame, because nothing burns quite like heartbreak. Diamonds are earth because diamonds are a hard substance. Clubs are used for heavy blunt attacks because why else would it be called a club? Spades are used for piercing attacks like a swift magical arrow because the Spade looks like the tip of an arrow.
Skills: Dijah is something of a talented chef. The problem with that is her recipes tend to not be appealing to most people since she favors seemingly gross ingredients and preparation styles, such as using grass and earthy ingredients to prepare meat. She'd much rather cook something over an open flame in a pit rather than in an oven or whatever. Given her cartomancy ability, Dijah is also very good at games, especially games of chance. She claims she doesn't cheat but people always have their doubts.
Brief Backstory: Dijah is a transfer student from a foreign country across many oceans. When she arrived at Ishikawa Academy she did so with a smile and a bit of confusion as to why people assumed she was some magical creature. She isn't, she's human. Dijah comes from a long line of diviners who have always practiced their ability only in their home country, being a rather insular community. Most of Dijah's family are looked down upon by others because they are seen as little more than swindlers and con artists. It was Dijah's idea to attend the magical Academy in order to show that divination and cartomancy are legitimate magical pursuits and to spread awareness of the art. The biggest challenge, Dijah soon learned, wasn't making divination seem legit but the cultural barrier. She didn't fully understand the language (and still doesn't) and her height often made her feel isolated from the others who saw her as some sort of sideshow event. But Dijah always remained happy even in the face of such hardships. Students have often come to her for readings on typical student things: romance, tests, things of that nature, and Dijah is just happy to be welcomed. Though the next person that asks if she's a magical being is getting a two of clubs to the back.
