Victoria inhaled as he pulled her through the portal, the putrid burning smell making her want to gag. She returned his tight hold until the purple turned into an apartment. She pulled away from him when he released her. Victoria took a couple steps back as he gestured to the tackily furnished room, and looked for the nearest exit. She had had more than her fill of supernaturals for the rest of eternity. “[i]What?[/i]” she squeaked, spinning around to fully face him. [i]From being abducted by vampires, to held hostage by a magician? Wonderful.[/i] “What do you mean, you can’t let me go?” Not that she had anywhere she [i]could[/i] go that she could not be found. She pushed the heart-sinking thought aside. For the first time, Victoria got a good look at her rescuer-turned-captor. “Who [i]are[/i] you?” she finished in little more than a whisper. She took another small step back, the back of her legs tapping the cushions of a recliner, and sneezed at the overwhelming scent of the incense.
