I believe the monsters are actually able to take on thousands. Hundreds sound unlikely for them to call off an eternal war.

If it is an army of standard soldiers, I think our characters might be able to do it. This is different if we include stronger individuals or strategies such as captains, generals, magic or well coordinated attacks.
