The Quarreling Couple Fintan and Aifric both look very relieved as they learn they will not, in fact, be sent on far-off adventures or made thralls. Aifric seems particularly grateful to Maire and Dunlad, outright saying she was worried for her freedom until they'd spoken up. She leaves, looking tired and still a little upset, but nevertheless is much more content than she was earlier. Fintan is rather quiet, and he waits until his wife has left the room before he speaks. Then, he recites a poem on the spot about the mercy and honor of the Council of Aonghus, a surprisingly fine one at that. When he is done, he presses his hand over his chest and says ardently: "I will do all in my power to show I deserve the kindness you've shown me, my kin. I will turn those boys and girls into legends. I swear it." With that, Fintan leaves the clan hall, his passionate words still ringing in everyone's ears. Word reaches the Council later that Fintan has totally dedicated himself to his new labor, taking great care of his pupils. The kerns compare him to a mother bear, and everyone seems pleased by this turn of events. The clan has more faith in the Council and in young Serheim's leadership, though the Tuad Rithe alone know how long this will last.
