Can ya give me your thoughts on the setup I'm considering? A knowledgeable friend has given his seal of approval on the audio setup and I know a fair amount about computers and I customised the laptop - but as many opinions as possible is always nice!
Audio setup is: Fostex PM-SUBmini subwoofer; a pair of Fostex PM.03s for the 2.1 stereo setup; and the Yamaha NSP51 to act as centre and rear speakers for the 5.1 surround system. Asus Xonar u5 sound card is being bought with the laptop. I'm splashing on the Fostex kit for the 2.1 because for once I'm in an okay financial situation and I'd rather spend now and have it be pretty damn future-proof. If anyone knows anything thoughts would be appreciated before I blow so much money on it ^^; Total cost including sound card is around £340 or $480. Worth?
The laptop setup is in a spoiler below and again: splashing for future-proofness as I need this for my degree. Current laptop couldn't even run the most simplistic draft version of my first-year project so it just won't do for future computational work. I'll potentially need to run (Python or C++) simulations that include general relativity by 4th year so need some relatively powerful shit. Cost will be around £1000 or $1400. Worth?
CPU: Intel i7 6700HQ 2.6GHz GPU: Geforce GTX 970m (the 3GB variant - fuck the 6GB variant. Nobody I've seen can get any value out of that extra VRAM.) HDD: 1TB @ 5400rpm (for no reason there isn't a single 1TB 7200rpM HDD available.) RAM: 16GB DDR4 2133MHz
Thank you in advance for any responses!
