Malcolm came from a normal middle class family.  He suffered from no traumas or strange occurrences.  His only issue growing up was that he would often misbehave.  His mother was a dominating woman and kowtowed her husband.  Malcolm saw this and grew up thinking that it was the normal way of things.  He was naughty often in order to be spanked and punished.  This is how he knew that his mother loved him.  His mother wanted him to grow up to be a doctor but his grades were not quite good enough.  He became a nurse's assistant instead.  

During his teen years he dated girls that were mean to him and treated him as his mother did his father.  He got off one being hit and talked down to.  When he accepted a job at Wonderland Asylum, he thought that this would be a place where he could make his mother proud.  Soon however, he started to care less and less about what his mother thought because he met another woman, the one called the Queen of Hearts.  He knew right away that she was the one for him and his long lived Oedipal complex faded into the background.

To the regular public he is a sweet, caring man that is loved and respected by everyone.  However, this is just a facade.  Whenever he is with the queen he will do anything no matter how twisted or fucked up she asks of him without even blinking an eye.  She is his reason for existing now.
