[/quote] The curvature of the earth has less to do with it than air resistance. a modern day .50 bmg has a muzzle velocity of about 850m/s. by the time it reaches just 2km out it's down to about half of that and has already lost 75% of it's energy. The maximum possible range of a .50 caliber sniper rifle is usually listed as about 6.8km because at that range you'd do more damage by walking up to your target and throwing rocks. and I this point I realize that I spent half an hour working on this when nobody cares.
