For money, my idea was (ready for some on the spot bullshit!?) one of his relatives had been sending over money upon request. They'd live outside the country, and had known something was bound to happen at some point. That, and he'd be working part time at something.

However, of course he has been in fights. People dont tend to like it when he makes offensive jokes about their family or their experiences. I'm saying he could easily handle himself if he was attacked in the street, or something similar.
