Maybe put a temporary approval on all new accounts?

Until the spam bot attack subsides? Then just approve the real accounts.. I mean most of the spam bots use random letters/numbers? 

It's not perfect, but will reduce the influx? At least until better measures are introduced?

With certain mods /who already have tons of work/ my apologies, could work on?
