I've basically made Russia (or at least the North Caucasus part of it) out to be like a Somalia, with mercenaries and militias flooding into Georgia (also a Wild West shitshow) down south to fight while refugees push further into Armenia (which really says something because Armenia isn't that great of a place to be, locked in eternal war with the tattered remnants of the Ottoman Empire.) Warlords roam the place, too many to count. There isn't even the Republic in name, more like some sort of loosely collected Volgograd territories. Ukraine is owned by Poland because #slavs. The Mafiya pushes drugs (meth in particular) down to Armenian cities, through the insurgencies in Georgia that the Armenians are fighting to control. They're a huge force in this region, pretty much functioning as an organized government in many towns and cities. This map is an older (not sure how in date) explanation of the situation. I must add that it's missing several Middle Eastern states like Syria and Lebanon and shit. Someone try reposting. Anyways, as for military technology I've made reference to Tsarist-era arms found on Georgian/Dagestani/Chechen/Ossetian/whoever militants. Gangsters in Sevan and Mafiya drug traffickers use Tsarist submarine guns that I've patterned after the PPSh-41. Most of what would be comparable to '60s Soviet-era tech is Polish. So like, Armenia flies helicopters that are basically Mi-8s but produced in Poland and have Polish names like the CdZfGhYzD-8100K Slavinator. They also like to secretly loan brand-spanking-new systems like the gee-whiz MCLOS antitank missiles ("A guided missile! That I can control with a joystick separately from the optic that tracks the missile! Golly gee this is the best thing ever!") to Armemia so that their observers and training detachments can observe the effects in combat.
