My current train of thought is around a character who had a traumatic event with his Lavabending (thing what happened to Katara when Aang first started learning firebending, but much worse) and is this afraid of his own abilities because of it. Barring that, also got an idea for a phantom-thief style jewel/precious artifact burgler with metal bending too( and possible Sokka's meteor sword that they totally didn't steal from a Museum/found after centuries of it being missing)
