the wolf pack, in all its glory!... plus jackson. wolf pack, oliver thought cynically. like they were the wolf pack of these people. when he looked at the source, he felt like he was the one staring at a wolf - the new face looked like he was searching for new prey, something to feast on; that is, until he reached oliver. i see we have a new little pup - what's his name? he's precious. right. guess it made sense that oliver should be that prey. as usual. it felt like he was some sort of target around here, but once he'd taken a quick glance around to study the other groups and individuals, he could spot distinct differences in those who were unfamiliar with liberty and those who had attended for several summers. the former were typically getting picked on. if he came back, oli prematurely swore not to turn into one of the ones that zoomed in on the new kid. the one at present was bent over slightly, as if to get a better look at him, and oliver damned him for being so cute. his eyes rivalled eli's in intensity, and oli struggled to maintain eye contact - which was short-lived, anyway. he quickly moved his gaze to the ground. "oliver cash," he answered bluntly, inaudibly, although his tone made it sound more like a well-concealed 'fuck off.' in fact, he was glowing slightly pink at the cheeks, like the attention from someone obviously in a different league from him was intimidating... and it was. thankfully, elijah was answering in a more understandable volume than his own, and oli just nodded to confirm his own name once it was through. for one, there was nothing to add - although he was fairly certain that most others might have built on their self description a bit more - and he was afraid to speak to or around eli for now. he wasn't exactly sure what about ghost set the kid off, so may as well stray from slipping up. eli didn't matter much, though, because soon someone stormed in screaming, and that audio alone was enough to freeze up oli again. he wasn't very well equipped to deal with loud noises, and he wasn't very sure that it was actually there, considering the shriek was replaying itself in his head to test alternative volumes. eli's swift turn of attention was enough to reassure him, however. otherwise, oli phased out of the situation to protect himself, leaning against the table behind his seat weakly and watching with half-lidded eyes. something between a girl and jackson. skateboard. of course. he could've predicted it, but of course, that didn't ease his anxiety. and then the fists went flying. oliver sat strangely still when jackson's knuckles came into contact with eli's elbow, bone against pure bone. it went better than it could have, to be fair; eli could have responded with a punch rather than simply defending from the attack. jackson could've kicked someone with his kangaroo feet. dunno - possibilities. no matter, oliver remained in a completely lucid state, pretending he wasn't there so he didn't have to partake in whatever conflict was going on. it was hard to do that, though, when the bright flash of a camera burst before your eyes. oliver's pupils weren't prepared and shifted accordingly, blinding him momentarily, and he became animated abruptly if only to rub his now dry eyes. the source of that shot was some ray of sunny-shine, with dazzling dentist daddy teeth and hair golden like pollen. oli couldn't hear him clearly, just made out the low octave of a voice and no distinguishable words, but it didn't quite matter. if his physical disposition was enough to take from, he was acting just a tad sarcastic. he was reminded of ash's presence only when the very picture this stranger had taken was thrown at him. someplace else mentally, now, oliver tried to ground himself by staring at the image, but it was very warped for the time being. he wasn't sure if it could even develop here - temperature wise, lighting wise. that in mind, he tucked it beneath the page with ash's number, acting like it was now some sworn duty of his. not like there was much else to do. her threats were becoming more apparent to him, and he looked up gradually, raising an eyebrow at the threats she threw around - they were not empty, that's for sure. and jackson, thankfully, certainly seemed to care about the fact that he might not be able to "romance the fuck out of" ash. he scrambled off quickly enough - one had to applaud the righteous team leader's responsibility. even if this display in particular was questionable. he was all the way "back" when ash turned to those around her to inform them of the situation, and although he was still having trouble registering even vital information like this, oli nodded hesitantly, watching jackson's retreating figure curiously. he wondered what it was like to be him - a very complex character, indeed. why don't you and i get a quick breather before intros start? oli knew he could be a concerning individual, but he didn't realise his silence could be read into that much. ash was just the type to catch on like that, apparently. oli stared at her for a moment through still slightly closed eyes, then at the "queen," like he would be losing a friend if he left now. to hell with it - oliver stood, rendering her compassionate kneel unnecessary, and looked around as if he had only just arrived. "where?" he asked, like it was enough to finish the question in its entirety. even just a 'where to' would have been useful, but he was seemingly too out of it. in the past, oliver had dissociated, panicked, what have you, but for now this seemed to be as normal as his reactions could get - especially to stressful situations like conflict, even if brief. he realised, then, that ash must have been paying very close attention. he lowered his voice, trying to retain what privacy he could, and finally met her eyes. "thank you."
