on November 11th,1965 the former British colony of Southern Rhodesia declared its unilateral independence from Great Britain under the leadership of prime minister Ian Smith.

so after having declared independence the small nation came under fire from the international community and the Commonwealth of Nations which lead to a crisis that would span a period of 16 years(1965-1980).
