Storytellers allow players to feel a real sense of "ownership" over the game and the story and the setting--a sense of ownership I'm not sure they'd get otherwise. And players that feel a genuine connection to the game often are happier players that stick around. Not always, but more often than not, I've found. And God yes, let's have all the obscure villains make an appearance. In the early stages of this game, when Talia was still going to be a GM NPC like Bruce, I was planning on her interrupting a meeting of low level obscure villains (kinda like Heath's Joker interrupts the criminals in TDK), a meeting chaired by Crazy Quilt. This is how deep my love for the obscure and silly villains goes.
