Kai is a very cocky fighter. If he feels he is going to win, he has a tendency to fight with less power. This has proved to be a serious limitation for Kai, losing a few skirmishes because of it. However, to back himself up, he is quite skilled in combat. Having a Saiyan father, fighting was taught at a very young age. He can handle himself with a variety of opponents. Although he is strong, he lacks discipline. Kai has sometimes allowed opponents to get up, resulting in injury or even a loss.
