I intended this setting to be as open-ended as possible. You can feel free to play a race of your own creation if you want, just try to explain [i]what[/i] that race is. Of course, there's no shame in playing a good old, reliable human/dwarf/orc/elf/hobbit/bobbit/lizardman!
