Small Deities
Theme Song They say that gods rule the wold. Hundreds of deities watching over people, helping them pr causing trouble, good or evil or simply mischievous. Of course, the legends are true. All of them, in every religion and language under the sun. Everything that humans believed existed, at some point truly did exist. Samodivas, sirens, tengus, leprechauns and even the major ones like Shiva, Ra, Thor… But many exist no more. To each beginning there’s an end. After all, the world simply isn’t big enough. And this is exactly the problem. For us. Because we are the small deities. We are the offspring of the gods, the insignificant ones. The servants. The slaves. The prisoners. Our parents aren’t understanding and do not care to share their love and affection with the likes of us. They are weary. And with good reason because not only are we their offspring; we are their potential successors. But of course, they do not want to be succeeded. Even you should know why, right? Have you heard the legend of Zeus? Do you know what happened to his father? Precisely. That is how gods vanish. And naturally, few go down without a fight. So they control us any way they can. They make our lives hell, literally treating us like slaves, beating and all. We are only truly free in our dreams, when our bodies rest and our spirits roam the vast expanses of our own worlds. But there’s something not even they know. A few of us are forming a resistance. Many of us now use sleep to not simply live our lives happily, we also found a way to link our dreams and visit each other’s. This is a unique opportunity for us to not only taste the meaning of “companionship” for the first time, but to also speak our minds without anyone overhearing. It’s a breeding ground for a rebellion. And we plan to break out of our prison once and for all.
So in case I’ve failed to communicate my idea clearly enough, here’s what this is all about: Our characters are the children of the gods. Each one has specific skills and powers and a “world” of their own. Said world only exists in their mind and soul and is only accessible while asleep. During that time, the godling can dictate the rules of said world and experience things that are impossible while awake. When visiting each other, the host-godling will be making the rules, but the visitor will have some influence/impact on the world, thus making visiting dreams an often risky endeavour. And while most of the godlings simply live out their dreams while asleep, for some it’s not enough and they want freedom in reality as well. They are the resistance and their plan is to use that fact that they do have some powers while asleep to overthrow the major gods (their parents and masters) by overpowering them while dreaming and crushing their own worlds. The rules of their awake-state are dictated by the major deities who have the power to not only set the rules in their own little reality, but also expand that reality beyond their dreams and impose them on the world and others. We: This premise has a lot of potential when it comes to possible developments. It’s largely sandbox so it’ll be up to you if you want to write slice of life or engage in a struggle of wills. Personally, I like a good mix of both and will walk the fine line in-between. We’ll play as small deities, aka low-tier supernatural creatures from any folklore or entirely unique. The major gods: The names of those will be established based on the needs of the RP (the players’ characters whose fathers/mothers said gods are). The children will have similar but often slightly differing abilities. For the plot progression I’d like to see an equal number of small and major gods, either by asking players to make one of each (imagine playing the torturer and the victim both!) or by having an equal number of players for each role. I’d like to keep things small with no more than 6 people, preferably around 3-4. I’m not overly strict as a GM and don’t mind 2-paragraph posts but I do insist on good grammar (full stops and caps locks are a must) and I like to see well-balanced characters. That said, if the POINT of your character is to be imbalanced, that’s a possibility. I'm aiming for this to be a low-advanced/high-casual depending on the players. Let me know if you’re interested~
