[@AtomicNut] I did indeed mean trope as in those cataloged on tvTropes, but my usage of the word is fairly strict.  It's not a trope unless it's a common theme found in various works.  I've never seen the word used any other way, though.  Don't worry, I'm not upset or anything.  I was just a little confused why I upset you.  *glomps*  Improper usage of the word would doubtless drive me nuts as well.

I've heard of Siegfried, actually, and I think a character based on him turned up in one of Mercedes Lackey's 100 Kingdoms books.  And the whole powerful ring thing did make me think Tolkien!  Unfortunately, translations tend to lack a certain something, and I don't usually enjoy them as much as other books.
