Below is my answer to the gym question, I may or may not have made up some more lore so let me know if there's any problems.
- Place - Pyrite Town - Orre - Type - Steel/Electric - Party - Klink (0-2) Klang (3-5) Aron (0-2) Lairon (3-5) Magnemite (1-3) Magneton (4-6) Jolteon (5-7) Aggron (7-8) Klinklang (7-8) Magnezone (7-8) Notes: I hope I've understood the whole positioning thing correctly. Although he'd have three 3-stage Pokemon, he'd only ever take two of them to defend his badge. He still fights using the pre-evolutions of whoever doesn't get to tag along - gotta keep your opponent guessing. - Gym - Things are done a little differently in Orre, Newton wouldn't have his own gym per say. Often the word of a challenger is spread throughout Orre, then it's up to the gym leader to set up a meet (typically in their 'home town' or where they have established themselves). Trainers that visit Orre are taught that the region's leaders lack the punctuality and structure as the other regions, some trainers have been known to roam the island for weeks before their challenge is accepted. The truth, however, is a lot different. It is tradition for the leaders around Orre to begin scouting out their challengers upon arrival. The gym leader then manipulates events in one way or another in order to ensure that the challenger endures some sort of test before eventually deciding to show up and give the challenger their chance at earning the badge. This is the first test, sometimes referred to as the external. If the challenger does not pass the external test then the Orre gym leaders are well known to fight mercilessly during the battle, bring their best Pokemon and use more battle items during the battle. Regardless of whether or not the challenger manages to pass the external they are told the location of the battlegrounds, typically in messenger form. These battlegrounds are where the fight will occur and most leaders take the time to create a few themed challenges or puzzles near the sight. Newton would always prep his staging grounds in areas that resemble junkyards, upon meeting with him the trainer would be told they have to complete several tasks (with the help of their Pokemon) that would not only challenge the trainer's ability to communicate well with their Pokemon but also their basic logical construction skills. - Internal challenge examples - Stack these one thousand sandbags into a pyramid shape in less than ten minutes. Using the tools around you, make a bridge over this fifty foot gap and get to the other side. Using the tools around you, move this hundred-tonne Rock fifty feet that way. Unlike the external, passing the internals is very much necessary to proceed to the final battle. - Newton's external challenge - When Newton discovers a trainer wants to challenge him he sets up a string of events that will determine the challenger's capacity for empathy. If the challenger proves to have an empathetic nature then he/she will pass the external test and the final battle will be slightly easier for that person. Events that might occur to a challenger during Newton's external - Homeless man asking for shoes Amputees and cripples requesting help to "rebuild" their homes Trainers who have "ran out" of medicine for their sick Pokemon. Just general manufactured events that help Newton decide what type of person he's dealing with and whether or not they pass the empathy test.
