Genderqueer is a really modern thing of the twenty first century and while I do not doubt that, for the sake of originality or identity you might want to provide Auri with a unique sexuality. But I find this rather unfitting for any setting that isn't contemporaneous (postmodernism) or futuristic, adding to what you said "the wastelands aren't a jewel of understanding" and Auri coming from the wastelands himself (even more added the fact that you have described her as "gullible and ignorant") then It's not believable how such a character have reached the conclusion of being non-binaryWHAT might solve this and still be in character would be saying that whatever incident caused him to become crazy also made her forget about his original gender or that she became unaware of what he is. It isn't your character really, just the term "genderqueer" itself which bugs me in this roleplay in specificOf course, this is all a harmless suggestion
Thankyou for this post, I hadnt even thought about it in these terms. What I was aiming for but lacked the language to present was that Auri is androgynous in appearance and doesnt understand people, or themselves, enough to identify with a gender or specific pronoun. What Im trying to say is that Auri sees people, wandering around acting like people, some of these people get called he's and some she's. Now Auri's physical appearance is androgynous enough that without looking at them naked next to other naked people you cant really tell what their sex is, and Auri doesnt get into situation where they have the motive or opportunity to inspect naked people particularly often. They get called he or she interchangeably depending on who says it (people have different opinions after all) and most of its said in anger or annoyance and they get 'it' fairly regularly as well. What Im saying is that for their entire memorable life theyve had both pronouns and many expletives used in conjunction with them, besides they spend most of their time in the wastes anyway as they get kicked out of town pretty quickly. I get that genderqueer might not be the most IC phrase for this RP but it was all I could come up with to prevent me from waffling on like I did for the rest of the CS ^^; And the 'jewel of understanding' bit was me attempting to inject a little humour into how I said it orz Thanks for making the point though, perhaps I can write 'unclear' as their sex? And sorry but Im going to continue using they/their for Auri, its just what I feel I should refer to them as, everyone else I encourage to use whatever pronouns their character would.
