Maybe it shouldn't be the blood you need, but just what's in the blood? Plasma is just 90% water anyway, but cells, iron, ect. are still in it. So instead of having to make up a whole new organ system, we could just say ingesting the blood could also work because it's not the blood itself the vampire needs, but what's in it. If we want to say the body goes into survival mode, pooling energy and blood into vital organs, then it would seem silly to say that vampires couldn't make their own plasma at least. So, do vampires have an iron deficiency?
