I thought of that myself. I'm really interested in how the death will change her views of people she's known her whole life, and affect how she interacts with them. It will add some extra conflict, which I always crave.

And cool with the extra characters bit. I'm always fine just focusing on the one, but please let me know if you change your mind. :)
