As an update that might effect your character creation. The back story is set one hundred thousand years into the future. The planet is actually the 5th planet that the human race has reached. 

The people that live on the neutral continent are natives to this planet and that is why they can harness the power crystals directly. 

The different races like elves and such that live on the magic island were actually all over the planet before humans arrived and claimed a continent for themselves, the technology based continent. 

I'm thinking that the natives of the neutral continent will look very human like, except that their skin glows relative to how much crystals are close by.
